| Administrator |  PHP / MySQL Developer
Can anyone recommend a PHP / MySQL Developer? I've looked at the usual freelancing site and they quote $15 an hour versus £40 a hour for a UK developer. Obviously I'd like the cheaper option but would also like to be sure I get what I ask for. Do you write a development specification or just say make me a site like xyz//.com? Thanks for any advice. £40 an hour, thats quite cheap for advanced coding. The programming house I use starts at £70 per hour heh, and costs more when you need complex regex, or database query optimisation. I had a database application wrote which how has 500,000 entries and each of 4 tables that join and merge. The app was lighting quick upto 50,000 then the sloppy SQL started to show. So I had basic optimisation doing, and it was fine until 300,000 when its getting sluggish, now it takes upto 10 seconds to run the queries, and needs reoptimising. Where as if I'd gone with the UK house, it would have been sorted right the first time, as they goto 4th Level normalisation and write concise code. Be VERY VERY VERY VERY Specific in what you want and how you want it to work. Saying for example... I want to upload pictures to my server and show them to users. Won't get you a photobucket application, you need to specify you need the admin panel, what options you want, how you want it to act. More specific you are the more likely you will get what you want.
