Didn't see this thread. My hd-tv.uk.com (horrible extension) is a pure affiliate site based around wordpress. Very easy to use, but more importantly I've developed a product uploader for it.

You simply download all of the affiliate feed data as a csv (from eg affiliate window), trim & edit the spreadsheet, then upload it to the website.

It takes about 30 secs to upload & hey presto all of your product pages are created for you, with affiliate links, images, description, etc, etc added.

@ Dashu, I can't stand the look of WordPress, no idea why people rave about them, I would never use them, plus, you say it involves csv's and spreadsheets, those are things I have not seen or used before, so I wouldn't have a clue how to trim and edit them, I would be totally lost after downloading them, and I ain't about to start trying to learn how to use them, I would get wound up inside 2 minutes and delete the programs from my computer, as I tend to do with a lot of stuff.

@ Skinner, I know mate, I keep looking at hosting sites, but on Evohosting for example, it's £25 for the starter package, but that only hosts one domain, the next one up is £50 and you can host 10 domains, the problem is, I would want to have more domains than that hosted, which of course increases the price as I would need the unlimted hosted domains package, that gives you loads of bandwidth, but it would be a complete waste of money from my point of view, as I use nowhere near 1 gigabyte per month, so I can't see the point in getting a big hosting plan that I wouldn't use much of.

Try looking at hostgator. $10 a month for unlimited sites. Search google for a coupon code and you get the first month for 1 cent or something. If you find them no good just cancel. I've used them for the past couple of years with no problems, but the drawback is the servers are located in the US.

Forget Wordpress, its a waste of time for mini sites, you may as well use a clear HTML site.

Joomla is click and press, piece of piddle to use for your bigger sites.

Oh, and you really need to use some proper hosting.

Wow! someone agrees with me about wordpress, total overkill for a minisite, most people think it's the holy bloody grail.

I would disagree about wordpress for minisites if you're going to have a lot of affiliate products.

When I say trim a spreadsheet I mean delete row & columns and rename columns, it'd take you all of 5 minutes to grasp, which if you didn't dislike wordpress would be a more productive use of your time than adding each product one at a time.

I can load up 1000+ products in under an hour from start to finish, each one having its own page, with seo friendly page web addresses, etc.

My point is that wordpress is an application, and quite a weighty one, a pure HTML /CSS, minisite would be much lighter and less bandwidth thirsty.

I am not saying it isn't good as it is, but for a minisite it is overkill, you install this application on your server then only use a fraction of it's capabilities for your site.

Put it this way, you could probably run 100 minisites on some shared hosting with unlimited addon domains, but to run 100 worpress sites you would probably need a dedicated server, because, forgive me if I am wrong, you would need to install 100 versions of wordpress.

Fair points, & I think you're right, you'd need to install 100 versions of wordpress.

However, I think that maybe I'm coming at this from a different perspective.

If I create an affiliate site I want something that I can put up quickly, can put a lot of products on, can amend/add/change products quickly & easily, and that doesn't take a lot of time to make those changes.

With wordpress I can wipe the entire list of affiliate products and upload a few thousand more in a couple of hours. I just couldn't get that from a static site.

For me it's all about time - I'd rather be able to put the site up & add the products in an hour or so, rather than spend days on it.

I use an unlimited hosting package that costs around £250 per year, so number of sites isn't a problem.

I also have static sites where theres a small number of pages, wordpress would be overkill for those.

Finally, after changing the hosting/dns 3 times, MountainBikeFrame.co.uk - Mountain Bike Frames - Mountain Bikes - Mountain Bike Forks is now working

I also used the 123-reg non framed web forwarding to redirect mountainbikeframes / co / uk and carbonbikes / co / uk to the main site, maybe I should really have those as single sites of their own, but I can't be bothered doing those 2 at the moment.
