lyrics.co.uk

I've been doing some reading here and came across some of the 'lyrics' threads.

The domain seems to have spent most / all of its time as some form of parked site. Would that always have been the intention (seems like maybe not from a couple of posts)?

Is it likely to be earning enough to justify or come close to justifying the price paid for it?

In hindsight, do you think the price paid was perhaps on the high side?

Just trying to get a better understanding of these things

Thanks

Suzi

If I remember correctly, when it was sold it had a big ovt + extension score and was earning around 50 euros/day parked, so the price paid may have been quite high but wasn't obscene. Who knows whether that level of income has continued but I recall checking the ovt score a year or so after the sale and it was way below what it was previously.

Traffic multiples range from 8-12 x monthly revenue for risky typos to 60 or more x monthly for pure generic names with traffic (like lyrics was). So that was sold at approx 4 years - 48 months ish of monthly revenue so was a pretty good deal all round.

It does however highlight one of the many risks of buying revenue domains - i.e. that it is hard to judge where the traffic comes from. If it is genuine type-ins or whether it is mispublished typos on an ad or something or even worse if it's pushed or bought traffic. If it's genuine type-in then it'll be there forever, otherwise it'll most probably die off without due care.

Most purchasers of revenue domains have had stories to tell about being burnt this way - so be wary!

If the revenue looks too good to be true then it probably is.

I don't know how well/badly he did with lyrics - it seemed an ok price to me when he bought it.

Yes,
overture was notoriously easy to fiddle the results on so no surprise the numbers came down after the sale.

I don't think it was a scam, the traffic/revenue was verified by Sedo where the domain was parked - this is all from my hazy memory so could be incorrect!

When I had it ages ago it had 400 - 500 direct type ins a day. Not sure how that equated to Overture at the time, but it was solid and were direct.

I think the price paid (last time) was alot, but developed the domain could be so much. I got shot because I needed the cash, but really I wish i'd developed it. Surely developed in whatever way could be a £150k website sale now. I looked into the legality of publishing song lyrics by my solicitor said avoid at all costs. I'd also thought about developing a music site / post your own lyrics up etc. Loads of angles.

Both the sellers are members on here I think so they may be able to give 100% correct info.

Yea, im sure it was all above board, but im always sceptical of overture results as they were open to abuse by webmasters back then. Too many times phrases went way high for a month then dropped rght down without a trace.

That would be my main worry on the sites, so from that point of view its development range would be limited.

Nice name, and has been earning since the purchase so if someone did the maths they could work out at what date it, in theory, would have paid for itself

I can assure you all that it wasn't a scam... after all it was my brother that sold it
