I registered many years ago domain name via 1and1
Yesterday I received letter form Arvato Finance (debt collectors).
They asked me to pay debt 10£ for domain name and + 15£ charge for late payment .
In the letter Arvato mentioned that "please do not contact "1&1": all contact should be made with Arvato Finance Service LTD."
I called to Arvato and they told me, if I am not paying this money, I will go to court!!
Great!! if you traveled and forget to renew domain, 1&1 can destroy your credit record!!!
So.. it's your choice registering domains via 1&1 or not, but Myself never-never will use this sh--t company!!!
Best Regards and good luck dear domainers!!

What's the best way to dump them ? .... Bearing in mind they charge a transfer out fee !

I think I have seen it's possible to the registrar transfer yourself on nominet. After that's done, think it will be enough to cancel all the "contracts" in the 1&1 system and they will get the message ?!

Peacock > usually you can transfer UK domains between registrars for free just change the tag, as far as I'm aware it's only TLDs you have to pay a transfer out fee on.

If you have to pay to transfer out UK names then that is cr*p, I've never used them and from what I've read over the years then I'm not going to bother either.

I'm sticking with Domain monster for UK domains but thinking of going to UK2 for .coms, a single .com on DM is £10 and on UK2 a single .com is only £7 :)

My battles with 1and1 are well documented. Renewal charges after names were transferred away etc etc

Lots of letters from Arvato. 1and1 we're completely out of order and didnt back down until I got nominet and OFT involved.

1and1 are a disgrace. Avoid at all costs.

@ Ukdomains, login to your Nominet account for the domains on the 1&1 TAG, click the Registrar Change link in the menu and do a mass transfer from 1&1 to your own TAG, it'll cost you £10 + VAT for a single transfer of all the domains.

Make sure you cancel your contract for the domains at 1&1 unless you want the debt collectors on your case!

Just been doing this exact thing this week. Moving all uk names away from them...at costy to me but 1&1 are just a pain to deal with.

    Also moving all .com/.net too..

As Grant said, cancel the contracts. 1and1 will renew them regardless of whether any domain names are linked to that contract.

Scandalous, underhand, but that's how 1and1 do business.
