How people put up with this kind of crap is beyond me.

    Ditch them!

If your with 123reg or 1and1 to name a few.
Get out of there! ... Or just keep banging your head against the wall.

There have been enough posts about these companies over the years, yet how people still go with them really is beyond me.

There are many good smaller hosts out there, who will give you great customer service. & reliable hosting.
Why not try giving them some of your hard earned money?

I know I was complaining but this is the first time it's been bad with hostgator - I'd still recommend them - they've helped me a bunch and usually within 5 minutes in the past.

1 and 1 on the other hand royally screwed me (£££ and time and headache)

I got to position 10 in the line and my laptop battery died before I plugged it it! :(

These companies survive on churn, they get lots of new customers in from vast amounts of advertising and just let the ones which require help go as it just not in their business model to pay for enough support. Others survive on the other side of the coin. Spending a lot less on advertising and providing great support but getting word of mouth advertising in abundance which is far more valuable!

I've had to contact Hostgator a few times about things and even though the amount of people in line might be high usually there's a lot of people there to help so it's fine.

I think Hostgator are great but maybe I'm just lucky?

HostGator is the only paid for hosting I've ever used, and I can't fault their support, very quick to answer and help when I've submitted support tickets.

Just for the benefit of the thread...
I've never actually used Hostgator so my comments weren't actually aimed at them.
No idea what they are like.

Support is the Number 1 priority for me when choosing any service I use.
No doubt everyone get issues & problems now and again, (I accept that) but if you can't get dedicated support for your money then your on always going to be onto a 'hiding to nothing' IMO.

As for the other two - I'll be sticking to my guns!

Hope you got the problem sorted.
    Mike

Yep I got it sorted. I'm still happy with them :)
Just a shock to see the length of the line.

Exactly - that image that was posted is very misleading. I had to use their support this week -I had inadvertently set up a duplicate paypal subscription for my hosting. All sorted within 30 minutes - I have now have refunds sitting in my paypal account. That's on a $9.95 hosting package where I have dozens of minisites hosted.

I have never been 47th in line before that day (maybe 15th max) that's pretty much why I posted the pic in the OP.

TBH it's a nice thing that they're honest enough to show that (instead of just show 10th). Although it is shocking, and my wait that time (and the next) makes it very unlikely IMO that they have 40 people manning the chat - maybe 5.

They sorted out my problem and I have a few accounts with them - generally happy. $10-$15 is great to host 20 sites on depending on traffic (saying that, you have to be careful about traffic and other limits because the sites can drop without warning).
