contacting end users direct for domain sales

    Hello Everyone,

    I am considering directly contacting end-users (cold contacting) that would be potentially interested in buying domains that I have for sale.

    What have been your experience with direct contacts? And what tips or advice would you give others based on your experience.

    Don't offer direct names else its DRS city for thee.

    Stick to Generic offers :)

    The trick is to find the person at the company most likely to understand domain names. If they already have a name registered, see if it's under a person's name and contact them. Or go with their marketing person, or maybe IT. Just e-mailing a "contact us" email is less likely to work.

    As the previous poster said, be careful you're not trying to sell "dollsAreUs.co.uk" to the owners of "BarbiesAreUs" or all you're going to get is a DRS.

    6 domains

    4 are asking for some trouble, 2 are pretty safe bets.

    One major factor I have found in shifting stuff is offering to put a simple 2-3 page website into the deal free (+30 for hosting, naturally thru an affiliate). Go them a front page, contact page, and openong times. This has been a deal closer a few times :)

    Good domains will attract buyers.

    If you have to go out and hustle, it can end up being discouraging for you and potentially messy for people out there that have a negative attitude towards what your trying to do.

    That's a great example skinner - I think it illustrates potential issues with names that some domainers don't think about.

    Foz, I totally agree with you where your asking 1000s, a domain worth mid-high XXX and above will indeed sell itself, but others made need a little push.

    However for up to earli-mid XXX (reg fee-250 say) names, to a company with no existing web face, is a huge market.

    Every time I goto the Chamber of Commerce breakfast club and all that jive (I'm bring that back, just heard it on Sudden Impact), small business understand the web is 24/7 and that a memorable name will be taken, and many understand that domain name are like car reg plates and only 1 can exist thus prices rocket. A fair few understand that they MUST have .com/.co.uk/.org.uk vs .tv/.net/.org and other CC/TLDs.

    There is definately a huge niche there for someone to tackle.

    Did anyone watch the Peter Jones thing last night ?

    Said he couldnt make the phones, and didnt wanna sell the phones, didnt want to run a network, so he realised a niche for getting the phone from A to B to C and made his 100,000,000 in 3 yrs doing that with Phone International, well this is a similar niche thats being ignored.

    I saw that. Minisites & pure affiliate marketing with multiple sites is the closest I could think or in domain terms.

    It would take a while todo and the sites would have to be better quality than the standard adsense site... I think google will start tracking & penalising these. Proper mini-sites will have to have a concerted seo effort, be more than cookie cutter, and have an amount of original content. ie sites it their own right.
