It's only day one and an old idea but I've been having fun.

    Cannot find server - deadlink

Any good? I'll probably just do it to make myself laugh.

    Cheers

    I had a (dis)similar idea.

When you forget to renew your domain name - .com or whatever, and some low down cybersquatter picks it up and puts up disgusting commercial adverts, there should be a place e.g. deadlink, that everyone can find, and that the previous owners of the site can put their revised site address and/or contact details onto.

It would need support from webmasters and forums but could in theory work?

Yes I had a few practical ideas when I saw it but I tend to go for the fun element all the time.

You could use it as a drop list website I suppose, the name fits IMO.

Although I do like yesterday's suggestion more.

Updated, this one's a little closer to my heart than Jade.

I think it's too realistic, you may have to catch their attention early like "You may be under investigation. You may not know that your computer has been taken over by Jade Goody. . ."

I don't think too many secretaries ever lost anyone any votes!

You mean people take a glance and all they see is a standard deadlink? Good. Well not entirely great but that's the basis of the site. I actually showed someone earlier and they said "your site is down" I replied, "is it? Check again" and then they said "yep, still down" haha

As for shagging secretaries... I'm sure they would have lost the vote from their wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, rentboy or Ms Whiplash.

I've put an image on the right, I'm not happy though so I'll give it some thought.

*i removed the image as it didn't look right.

I'm contemplating putting adsense on the right of the fake deadlink scribbles, but that would compromise the idea wouldn't it? best to leave the top half blank?

Can't you just change the first line a bit to make it a little more interesting and catching?

e.g. Unfortunately you cannot be displayed.

    or something like it.

The design itself is strong enough for people to see that it is a page not found page - well I think so anyway!
