    I'm not sure that it is. If it were then why would it stop at just domain names? Why not go for all references to the words in sub domains, in search engines and in all publications? Google search for "bbc news bestiality". You'll get results. Then tell me why a hypothetical "BestialityInTheNews.co.uk" domain name pointing to a web site that was referencing those results should be banned?

    It's a big deal because nobody knows where it might end up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_...

    Then maybe it should be debated what sort of controls should be placed on the internet.

    A free open internet is great in principle. The sad thing is there are some sick sick people out there who do and will use the net for evil

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25729140

    There has to be some regulation. What this regulation should be, Who makes the rules and who watchers the watchers is all open to debate. But surely as a society we cant just sit back and say anything goes on the net for the sake of freedom of expression.

    I would rather see the names banned than used for anything whatsoever. They serve no useful purpose. Not having them exist is better than having them exist.

    "They serve no useful purpose" in your opinion. They could. I'd rather see many of them point to material educating those navigating there than simply banning and pretending the unfortunate definitions didn't exist. Sticking fingers in ones ears won't make something go away. As Grant has already pointed out, anyone wanting to distribute illegal content isn't likely to do it through an obviously labelled destination.

    This was inevitable. Like anything else, it has, (to be seemed) to be regulated in some form. Just like porn mags and movies. Someone somewhere has to decide if it is fit for adults only or the likes of "The Conjuring" should be fit for 15 or whatever.

    I have a few porn names and I know I'm in the minority here, but I believe porn should be an opt in rather than an opt out.

    I'm also not adversed to a filter on real bad names. If someone wants to educate people on the dangers of bestiality (or whatever) then it should be an opt in. Contact Nominet, make your case, see if they agree and if they do, let the name be registered.

    Grants right, if you really want to put some bad stuff out there it will happen anyway but imo you have to do your best to make it harder and off the main stream as possible.

    It's the wild west. Anything goes and if you search hard enough for what you "desire" you will find, no matter what regulations/filters are put in place but the UK government has to take a stand because the ISP's were not. So now they are being forced to and it is inevitable Nominet would have to as well.

    There is no sane reason to register bestiality other than...
    1. The obvious
    2. To educate people

    Let no2 be an opt in at the discretion of Nominet

    Some domain names have now been suspended

    Underlined = not suspended

    I've observed that some of the domain names listed in the table at 7.23 within the report have now been suspended. The ones that are underlined HAVE NOT been suspended but I think the remainder have been. I am not sure if any other domain names have been suspended outside of the above list. They may have been.
