I've got a stack of flight related domains using destination plus word flights - e.g. dubaiflights.co.uk.

Just wondering if anybody had tried to monestise similar names, or if anybody else was steadily collecting such names. I'm at the stage where I either need to start doing something with them or resell them on.

    Thanks
    Stephen.

I have a flights site, it could really do with an overhaul but I don't have time to focus on it. The name isn't bad though, it's Cheap Flight Tickets. Even with the very old design, it makes the odd sale, but the commission is only 1%, so you need volume.

The sector is ultra competitive, the commission rates are low, but with the right domains, focus and good SEO, I guess revenue could be there.

Oh, and use a booking engine on the site ... like Expedia Online Flight Booking ... this should really be on the home page, but I had some technical CSS difficulties with it and didn't have time to solve them. NetFlights also has an aff programme.

I've got a few geo+ flights which I have developed....

e.g. this Iceland Flights site for Reykjavik flights. Got quite a bit of volcano related traffic !

    Good
    • High online booking percentage ... No leakage to call centre for example.
    • Plenty of merchants for some destinations.

    Bad
    • Ultra Competitive Sector.
    • Airlines have a habit of going bust.
    • Biggest Players - easyJet & Ryanair have no affiliate scheme.
    • Low commission .. some are 1% and don't pay commission on taxes.
    • How long before Google integrate a flight search into main results?!.

I have a number of travel sites, but only one or two flight-related ones. I find the commissions from flights are so marginal that there's more money to be made from hotel sales.
