Any ideas which are the best public drop catching services at the moment........ or is this a trade secret? ;)

Catching is one of those things that seems to change from month to month, best bet is to book in as many places as possible to increase your chances.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'll register with a few more and see what happens.
I tried caught.co.uk yesterday for a domain that is dropping in a couple of months but haven't had confirmation that is has been booked yet... although when I go back today to try and book it again it says 'booked'. Hopefully not by somebody else!

I'll let you know how I get on with the others.

    Thanks.

If caught lets you book it then it's booked to you, you don't get confirmation. You can double check it's booked to you in the control panel also:

    Thanks Grant,
It appeared to let me book at the time. However in teh control panel I cant see the domain, it does say 1 domain booked but there was there before I booked anything at all.

I've emailed them so I'll see what happens.

    Does domainwatchlist_co_uk catch for themselves?

This is a good point. If you're in the catching business you CANNOT run with the hare and hounds. Public catchers should be trusted not to take your booking and grab it. Black and white.

I don't think the debate about a 'good' catcher will ever be resolved here. A good script will have maybe three years of substantiated catches.

No. We have only done public catching since domainwatchlist was set up.

I'd question this, why should a catcher NOT go for a catch on their own system as long as the booking system rules are followed? I don't catch many for myself these days, but the few I do go for are put in the system in exactly the same way as any other customer and I share the frustration of seeing a "this is already booked" response when someone has already booked the latest "killer" name I've just discovered on my drop lists.

I guess the risk is someone thinking that they have 'stolen' their idea and they only booked it because they were alerted to the fact it was dropping by a customer. For example if I check if a domain is available to book and dont book it immediately is this recorded somewhere for the site owner to review and then book themselves?
I guess it would be silly not to book it immediately

I have manged to book through one of the sites suggested so thanks for that. All others appear to be booked up already. I'm too slow again! Grr

This thread has reminded me to start booking some domains in...

Alex, on the topic of catching, does your new website check availability live or are bookings manually submitted to you once entered?

Doesn't really make much difference either way, just curious. :)

I'd not even thought of the idea of recording non-booked names to see if there is anything of interest :)

My updated system simply drops names into a queue (immediately rejecting already booked or queued) and then processes the queue in a batch to see what is suspended and to calculate the drop date. I'd designed it that way so it could be "hands off", but I guess it gives it integrity as it removes "me" from the process.
