After watching the devastating news about the earthquake in Haiti over the last few days, it made me think of this video I watched a few weeks back

Michael Pritchard's water filter turns filthy water drinkable | Video on TED.com

Fabulous invention and when disasters such as this earthquake happens, it puts it into perspective how important and priority something like this should be around the world.

    Thanks for posting that Frank

Amazingly simple and cheap invention to provide safe drinking water for quite a long time on each cartridge. Haitian citizens could do with this right now. Perhaps some of the aid agencies will stock it but I doubt that there will be enough.

We have good friends in Port au Prince and are awaiting news from them. We have heard that they are alive but no news yet on the orphanages they help run. Only a year ago they were reeling from the four hurricanes that hit Haiti and now this. But they have tremendous faith and resilience.

This is pretty neat - I also remember seeing a product a while ago which took the moisture in the air (can be used within a range of the coast) and created drinking water.

I know it's mainly bad news from Haiti but just heard some good news. All the girls in the two girls orphanages our Haitian friends help run are safe. News reported here:

    Welcome to Freedom House Orphanages

Haven't heard about the boys orphanage yet, but don't believe it was located anywhere near Port au Prince, so hoping the 10 little boys will be fine.

Saw this invention a while back, and it can could into it own during a cricise like this. It's so simple and yet can no doubt save million of lives. I always find it odd, that s little relating to environmental concern seems to relate to water. It's an area that can be tackled quite easily compared to others.
