quickest and fastest way is joomla with virtuemart bolted on

very very simple and easy to get up and running and of course all free. That is the dog's B when it comes to shopping carts IMO.

All proper shopping cart systems are going to take a bit of work. They are much more than a simple template.

My thoughts would be to use Zen cart or Magento. Neither are just templates but proper cart systems.

i would strongly suggest Zencart. Its extreemply powerfull, easy to set up and their are various free templates you can customise out their for it. If you want to take it a step further their is also paid templates you can buy around £90 mark which look brill but it does mean you wont be unique, thus id suggest customising it afterwards.

I usually use free CSS templates as there are a number of website offering these templates. However, I have to make a number of changes in the templates still I love this as this allows me to give wings to my creativity.
