I think many people are underestimating, how many non-uk people will assume .es, .de, .fr and .uk not realising there is even a .co mixed in there, this has to account for many type ins ?

Im getting "potential phishing" site with NOD32 when i visit maps.uk.

Back on topic, Direct traffic in GA can also be represented in different ways for example traffic which has no referrer is seen by GA as direct traffic, some browsers do not pass a referrer, same as some proxies and marketing campaigns if not tagged correctly.

Do you also get the same message visiting the matching .co.uk?

SiteAdvisor is wrong. There's a single page of HTML with nothing "weird" on it. The other 7 scanners have passed it as clean. See http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/maps.co.uk#blacklist-status

More importantly, SiteAdvisor has proven to be a junk tool on countless occasions. There have been so many issues with it that complaints have even filtered into the Wiki article about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siteadvisor

That maybe the case but i thought id let you know because if your blacklisted in one of them , the others may follow suit which in turn will kill your traffic. Best to submit a removal request before that happens eh ?

    Just a quick follow up...

Maps(dot)uk has averaged 27 typeins a day since I switched it on, and aside from a small spike around the time this thread was last active, there's no evidence that the traffic is as a result of this thread... as you can see for yourself with this daily traffic breakdown:

    16/06/2014 22
    17/06/2014 31
    18/06/2014 53
    19/06/2014 41
    20/06/2014 26
    21/06/2014 22
    22/06/2014 17
    23/06/2014 33
    24/06/2014 29
    25/06/2014 27
    26/06/2014 28
    27/06/2014 24
    28/06/2014 36

Similar picture (on a smaller scale) for Map(dot)uk:

    16/06/2014 10
    17/06/2014 24
    18/06/2014 18
    19/06/2014 17
    20/06/2014 14
    21/06/2014 8
    22/06/2014 19
    23/06/2014 25
    24/06/2014 19
    25/06/2014 15
    26/06/2014 6
    27/06/2014 15
    28/06/2014 10

Every one of my geo domains that I picked up in .uk has now had some typein traffic, including several that I didn't mention anywhere at all.

Yup, and depending what you're selling or doing traffic from foreign countries could be absolutely worthless to you.

At this point in the game I suspect the traffic will be coming from UK, but equally worthless - domainers and site builders typing in random generic.uk to see whats on them if anything...
