It would seem a logical solution for multi-PC families to get a home server to store pics, movies & data in one central location so with that in mind I bought home servers (homeservers.co.uk) which went through today for low £xxx.

I think they are quite pricey just now but certainly something I would look at for myself & would welcome any thoughts you folks had on value, perhaps one to try and rank & lease out.

I think its more likely that people will store those types of files off of their home network, negating the need for technical knowhow, upkeep or the initial expense.

    Something like www.babeldisc.com

A safe buy at that price and in keeping with Bill Gates vision, but the concept faces competition from online services and also games consoles which are becoming more capable and could be the basis of a home hub.

I'd agree that web-based appliactions and online data storage will prevent this one from ever going too high, but it was definitely worth it at your price.
