How to go about this?

Not 100% sure where to put this but hopefully here is okay.

To cut a long story short, I know a good few people who are finding it really hard to get a job. Some of these people have been trying really hard to make some money but jobs are hard to come by in Ireland at the moment.

As some of you probably know I offer content writing services, but now that I'm in my last year of college I don't really have much time for writing anymore.

However, the people that I'm talking about aren't in their final year and have some spare time.

I mentioned article writing to them and they were quite interested in being able to make money at home or whatever. Told them I'd try to help them out as much as I can so basically what I want to ask you all is - what would you do in my position?
Let's say you own loads of affiliate sites, would you be willing to test a few of these people out to see if they are up to it? I'd assume that they aren't expecting a huge amount of money from it, minimum wage would be a good start though.

All of these people are in college so the level of English will be decent enough I'd say.

Note: I'm not trying to make money out of this since they are friends - just want to see if I can help anyone out. I just find it annoying how so many people can't even get a minimum wage job these days.

Does it have to stop at article writing?

Do any of your friends have other skills or knowledge that could be useful to local business owners - marketing, selling, promotion, technical abilities, coding, research, data entry, design etc...

Perhaps they could work on commission trying to sell some of your domains to end users :) and use their spare time to your advantage and perhaps theirs. If successful I'm sure they'll have some takers on here :)

I don't have a massive portfolio anymore (perhaps around 50) but if a confident college / uni grad wanted to use pre-written templates with a little sparkle and spend their time researching and contacting end users for sales for a commission - I wouldn't say no (need to be controlled i.e. sending out spam mails)

Wouldn't harm using them for content for your affiliate sites either - you could even consider profit share. They do the competitor / product research and write the content for a share of the profits on your domain / site. Again advantages for you both using the thing most of us struggle individually to find and manage.....time

Think carefully about whether you want to mix friendships with business.

+1 to this comment. It can be a slippery slope.

+1 here as well. Though, it does work relatively well if you can match their writing skills with their real interests/ hobbies. Eg. Get a carp fisherman to write for a carp fishing website:)

    Thanks everyone.

I suppose it's true that you don't have to stop at content writing, just thought of that since it's one of the easiest ways for someone to earn money online in my opinion (assuming their English isn't really bad).

Friends and business probably isn't the best combination in the world, but just want to help out a few people. As I said, it's not like I'll be making a profit from this but I know where people are coming from.

Good point about getting them to write on what they are interested in. One person for example is doing a music course and he actually mentioned that it'd be good to get something music related.

Edit - Starting to get a feeling that I created a similar topic around 6 months ago on here, obviously didn't go ahead with it that time if I did!

I would look at getting them to develop a domain, and add content and adverts, give a man a fish and all that.

If they are in college then they'll be 17-20... I guess they don't have the luxury of building sites today on the off chance of getting paid 6 months from now (if at all)

You can't pay for your pot noodles and tesco value beer with IOU's...

    I do, heh.

Know what you mean though, majority of people want money now rather than waiting around for it.

    Thanks admin.

Thought I'd give this a quick update.

I got one person started writing content and he really enjoyed it. He was looking for a job for ages without any luck and then a week or two after I started helping him out he got a "real" job!

Since then I've decided to take the advice I've got on here and not get involved with too much people just in case things go wrong.

Thanks again for all the help :) In other news, I should probably try focus on getting myself some content work seeing as that I've had a week off college and didn't do too much writing!
