Hello all, I'm quick new to all this, although I do have some basic knowledge, i think! :D

I'm currently sitting on one domain:

    www.CheapGlasses.org.uk

I have given myself budget for 5 domains, free to reg, and then I will see what happens, so I'm still looking round for some others.

I'm planning on developing cheapglasses into a basic site, with ads, as it has over 100,000 exacts, 21000 local exacts.

    Have a nice day ;)

Hello Panda, welcome to the forum.
You say you have some basic knowledge, well you must have
if your first and only reg. has that many exacts.
It's a great first domain and if you can find 'five more free to reg' as
good as that, then you're off to a flying start.
    Good luck,
    Mark.

    Damn

This sucks, got it through just now, there goes my fortune ;)
Is it worth me complaining or something? Is there anything that can actually be done?

No. The domain was registered in May 2010!

Make sure you use the Whois at http://www.nominet.org.uk/ when you want to see if domains are taken or not...

If you still want to target the cheap glasses term, then I would go for:

    cheapglasses[something].co.uk

Welcome, I wonder what made you think cheapglasses was available :?

Anyway have a good look around and if you can afford it then I would reg 20 to 50 domains to give you more scope, you don't want to reg just 5 and not make any money and then give up !

    Good luck 8)

Welcome. Try not to fall into the same trap so many others do (guilty myself when i started) of building something really really thin & shit. Then, thinking it will make money and complain when it doesnt because you have not invested in the right things.

My genuine advice to you would be:

1)pick something to build thats fairly high basket sales value/high CPL (so "when" you do get a conversion its actually worth it. eg why try super hard to make 10 sales when 1 sale could make the same)

2)look at what the top sites have done on their sites eg site architecture/URL structure, main pages of content off homepage, title tags, amount of content etc.

3)build your site on a stable CMS & replicate it. I dont mean copy it word for word. Get your own content bods to write unique quality editorial and lots of it. If you genuinely make an effort on this bit you will be rewarded later.

    4) Dont worry about monetising it or the webdesign too much (or at all) until you have traffic you can actually convert. Why waste time and money until you have the 1 thing that counts!?

5)look at your competitiors backlinks and start linkbuilding yourself (let u work that out urself :))

    Enjoy :)

It was never "taken away" as it wasn't available to reg in the first place.
