    Hi,
Apart from a couple .scot and .wales domains I have stayed away from new GTLDs then last week I picked up these.

    What are your appraisals?

    Local.Photography
    Local.Agency

    Thanks

    Simon

sorry to say pretty worthless - e.g. localagency.co.uk and localphotographer.com as an example why would anyone use local.photography as a website it doesn't mean anything

Not very helpful I know but I couldn't value something that I wouldn't register and I would not register either. I don't even think they are worth a punt.

I think you are getting into such a vast amount of permutations that a secondary market without development will not seriously evolve.

Honestly, I believe the new gtld's will only serve to strengthen the need for .com's and co.uk's

biz and info never really gained traction, so why should most of the new ones.

Local.Photography - Who do you envisage as the end user, and why?

I think you misunderstand the nature of the new domain extensions. They're not for domainers but for brands. The only domainers in the new space are the registries.

Can I frame your answer and put it on my wall?

I think it will become a classic.

I didn't say that. I said your comment would be a classic.

I am not a domainer nor am I sponsored by Uniregistry. I'm just saying that the classic .com domainers still having the old mental model will fail at being a new gTLD domainer. Who will register new gTLDs? Right now the SMEs and startups, which can't get their .com and aren't bothered to go to the aftermarket, when there are +500 new domain endings to choose between, and you can get any LLL.extension. Simon here apparently registered Local.photography. Is it a brand name? No. Will he be able to sell it in the aftermarket? No

Should you then as a domainer go after brand names in the new gTLDs? Impossible because the client will again not bother to buy from you, when there is such a huge assortment.

So, yeah, for a .com domainer as you, they are junk. For a startup it's a perfect alternative when some domainer wants XXX USD for their first choice.

You are deluded. Any startup using ngtlds.junk deserves to fail..

How do you get closer to a domain name, they are virtual ? ;)

On subject, I reckon all these additional extensions are bollox, but that's just my opinion!

I can't help but to conclude that when you divide the number of potential end users by the number of new gtld's, there will never be enough developed sites of any one new gtld to gain real global recognition. pro and biz and info have all failed as globally recognised extensions.
There are simply too many extensions with too many permutations of each extension.

Ya your closer to the scrap pile than me dude..

I feel gutted for you or your clients who've somewhere down the line have spunked $$$$$$$$$$'s on ngtld.junk

Think about this, every minute and second that goes by right now, there are millions spent on advertising .com or .co.uk, .de, .fr etc, how is the pitiful budget of a ngtld start up registry going to compete with that starting 20 years behind?
