The independent news papers got slapped down from a PR8 to PR4.. ouch.

The daily mirror is also now PR3.

The moral of the story for me is still the same as ever though.. don't buy and sell links in an obvious way that builds a pattern for google to recognise.

^ Unless of course you're doing whack'a'mole tactics like a lot of payday loan sites do and you're happy to only have your site rank for a short amount of time.

Read a good bit about this over the last few days.

I see why google slapped them, but personally I think they should still rank for "Interflora".

Very interesting that I've a site or two that has the same PR as the daily mirror now! Ha.

You think you would be safe with authority sites such as newspapers. The days of link buying are numbered. SEO really is a different beast these days!

Google is the beast, should be a non profit organisation. They can destroy a company overnight. I do however think however they have brought us some really special technology, like google maps/street view.

I don't get why have dropped them for for there brand. if i type interflora into google I'm looking for one site regardless of if they disagree with there advertising practices or not
I though it was all about serving up the most relevant site I notice big G arnt bothered about taking there money direct.
Really hope this pisses of the main stream press and they start to take a closer look at googles practices

Google has penalised itself previously.

I would guess maybe it will be the same 60 day jobby for interflora.. I agree that they should still rank for their name though.

I agree, they should rank for their name. However, penalising them for their name definitely goes a long way in discouraging other companies from doing the same.

Google can literally kill a business overnight. It is quite incredible how much power they have got.

And Interflora seem to be ranking ok agai from just checking quick..

Nice the big sites can get manual penalties lifted so quickly.. good for them ;-)

Yep, and here many of us are almost a year on from Penguin with no sign of a refresh or recalculation!
