    Hi all,

I'm relatively new to affiliate marketing - been building sites for a long, long time but never set out to make money through affiliate marketing.

I'm just curious to know how you guys choose which service or product range to promote? Do you generally choose services or products?

Of the few affiliate sites i've created so far, my service-based site is the only "successful" one.

    Thanks for any insightful information.

    Mat

I promote both services and products. I haven't written down my technique for choosing things, but I probably take into account over 30 different factors. Knowing what's worth promoting comes with experience, and has a lot to do with profitability of sectors. There are also some things I won't promote from an ethical point of view. I am going to give you a link below to help you on your way, but this is a really important part of affiliate marketing, and key to success ... so even if I had it written down, I doubt I would elaborate too much as it's getting very competitive out there, suffice to say it's worth you doing a lot of research, taking into account multiple sources of info, and doing some testing.

    Hi accelerator,

Thanks for providing the link, it was very interesting listening to the podcast and I'll definitely be listening to future episodes.

I think I have chosen good topics to promote which should be profitable and year-round products and services so that's a start. The thing I am most curious about is link building. I know inbound links are very important but I've no idea how to secure good, relevant links from real site owners (what is in it for them?). I assume link building extends far beyond directories.

I have the skills to create my own sites and I can author good content - if I only knew a little more about all this affiliate stuff I think I could make a real success of it.

Perhaps someone who needs some of my skills can lend me some of theirs...

Thanks again for the heads up. Let me know if you are happy to talk some more.

    Cheers

    Mat

    hi Mat,

I believe you need to consider what kind of marketing technique or traffic strategies you do to promote a product or services. If you use email marketing, you need to determine what kind of products/services your leads are into. If you have leads who are into forex, then perhaps you can sell then forex robots or strategies that can help on their business. Don't sell products or services because of commissions. Instead, sell products/services as a solution to their problems.

If you plan to use SEO marketing, then you need to study on the number of searches that people are looking for this product/services. Then check on their cpc value so you have an idea how valuable the product is in terms of money. The best thing with SEO is that, your traffic or visitors is targeted. Meaning, there's a good chance that they will buy your product once they reached your website, because it is exactly what they are looking for.

    Regards,
