Surely to sweet Jesus they wouldn't choose Sedo. I'd be happier if Nominet just ran the auction themselves.

Imagine Sedo running it, 10 seconds before it closes and you are just about to bid.............. you hit enter.

"Sorry your account has not been verified, you are not allowed to bid over £10's" Then bleeding Domcollect sweep up buying them all for £11.

Nobody trusts Sedo, any auction specialist really has to be outside the domain industry or just have Nominet run it from inhouse. Otherwise there is going to be a lot of backbiting, especially with Sedo having a board member.

It's pretty much inconceivable that any of the one-letter and two-letter names will ever make it to general release - there will be too many interested parties with a legitimate or believed-legitimate stake at the sunrise stages for any to drop through the cracks... So as a purely academic exercise it will be interesting to watch the process, but unless you're already sitting on the relevant (nicely aged) trademarks you're not going to get a look in!

Hmm, I did wonder about this too Edwin. A lot depends on whether the trademark owners are awake enough to realise the domains are being released. I wouldn't be surprised if a few names slip through but if they do they will probably be oddball combos like xq.

I wonder if there will be a rush to acquire the trademark rights matching various 2-letter domains off of companies that own them and have done so long enough to qualify for sunrise, but which aren't currently actively exploiting them?

Will all of the interested parties be aware of the sunrise period though?

Thanks to the OP for sharing this info..

I have been in touch with a few companies with legitimate claims and will see how it goes :)

Does that mean that you have alerted people to them, rather than just wishing for them to drop?

I have got in touch with companies I know personally (have worked with) and have discussed about securing the domains (either to sell or use)

I don't believe that many domains will drop. A very small amount might, but not many.

Even if the domains did drop, I wouldn't be the one to get them. They will get snapped up by private catchers with good systems, and public catchers using their own systems.

I think you could make some money alerting companies, and if you know them already, more chance of them paying you once you secure it.

    Its a good idea.

What is there to stop Nominet from contacting TM holders regarding these domains and telling them that they may have rights in certain domain names?

I think that they already have, as part of the consultation process. I remember reading that they sent out (thousands of) letters to LL trademark holders.

I don't have time to look now, but will try and dig out a link later on.

As the most prominent extension .co.uk. Surely nominet should have wrote to the holders of L-L.co.uk domains. As if there letters are released as LL it will take away tons of there business and damage any future uses they may have for them?
