It seems like there is a cloud frenzy at the moment with people registering all sorts of domain names to jump onto the cloud bandwagon.

Is there a real market for this or are people going to be dropping them like flies in a couple of years when people realise that every website in existence is already on the cloud?

I'm guilty too as I regged a few cloud 'brandables' myself but upon reflection I'm thinking it was probably just a waste. The ones with good exacts have already gone but there are plenty of (.co.uk) FTR domains available which could be used as a brand, an industry news/reviews site or forum etc.

What do others think. Is this just a passing fad, like the second coming of 3D, or is there is there a future in all things cloud?

I regged the following amongst a few others:

    cloudwiki .co .uk
    cloudtoolkit .co .uk
    cloudappmaker .co .uk

I can post a list of FTR cloud (.co.uk) domains that I found available if anyone is interested. Some okay but some seem a bit rubbish. If the cloud-mania continues though there could be value in some of them.

There is always a frenzy of some sort in domaining.
    Same with with 3D etc.

People handreg longtail domains that are just bad. Nobody wants them. Not now, not in the future.
The best domains were registered a long time ago. It doesn't matter whether cloud is a fad. Bad domains are bad domains.
I think people are following like sheep.

I have regged just one, cloudgamer.co.uk. I'll probably leave it at that for now.

It's a fad. Just like 3D is/was. You need to go after the top half-dozen names in the niche or forget it completely.

I hand regged cloudservice.co.uk a few years back, and I'm quite happy with that, or did I buy it? I'm not sure. Anyway, the 'cloud' is certainly here to stay; whether it's worth registering any longtails is very doubtful IMO.

I have two, both nice brandable types, though I'm not sure if they'll come off, but not going to lose sleep over my £12.

The cloud used to just be a term for the internet, now it's become a term for a practice of putting assets somewhere on the internet, rather than in your office? That practice that isn't going anywhere, so as long as the name sticks, we'll be using it for a while yet.

I purchased 2 - cloudserver & cloudservers both co.uk. Have offers in the mid to high £x,xxx but was considering sitting on them a while.

Will there be a trend in the future? I hope so but i do have my concerns, do i sell now for a good profit, wait another 6 months for a bigger profit or will that waiting prove to show a negative investment.

I'd be interested in your opinions on my domains?

Yours are amongst the better ones as they are directly relevant to the industry. The competition is high on the keywords with the CPC at around £15.

Personally I would have taken the high £x,xxx offer but a higher price might be possible if marketed to the right circles. I'd start looking now. Who knows, in a few months we may be over the cloud phase and decide Rain is the next big thing.

    Rainservers anyone? ;)

Since you asked, I think you were right to hold out for more. I think you will be able to make a good sale on these names. What I would do is put up an informational site explaining what cloud servers are, giving some general info. Then at the top of the page, put a msg saying your domains are for sale, a bit like I have done for jet hire and rare wines, but your name is much better!! Then rank it. You will be getting eyeballs from all the big industry players. Then work out how much it's worth (quite a lot!!) and wait for the right enquiries to come in.

I would do this quickly if I were you, because you don't want to miss the "buzz" surrounding cloud names. Companies are now moving in this market, so they will be starting their offerings up, and I think now offers good domain sale opportunities. Keep atuned to the cloud market so that you don't miss the "tech buzz".

    Good luck.

These names are good. Not all domainers have the ability to land that kind of domain :p
I think you will be able to fetch more by holding them for some time. In spite of the hype, there is future in the cloud.
    Good luck.

Thanks for your comments, it would seem the majority are agreed that although this may be a trend it is likely to see the light for a while to come.

Accelerator appreciate the tip, will be working on that now and have ordered some content.

Deltrus - the CPC is high but getting these domains to rank with such high competition is going to be very difficult. I will put some adsense on them and see how it goes.

What about affiliates? I understand they pay well, does anyone have any experience in this area under this topic?

    +1 for cashing out...

I'd say only the brandable cloud domains will be worth the money as the internet user swarms don't tend to search for say 'office cloud' or 'google cloud' - they search for office 365 & google apps.

The products are far to specific for generics to take off IMO.
