browsing through the posts - mostly ads of domains for sale.. a bit boring ;)

I'm curious, what sites have you developed as a side project? maybe some abandoned ones? .. it doesn't matter if it doesn't get much traffic :D :D .. as long as it isn't another blog around some keywords.

few mine:
artforweb.co.uk (abandoned cc0 photo site) .. brrr.. a horrible domains :D :D
outlived.co.uk - classifieds (go there 1x week just to have a look what is going on, usually the same stuff over and over)
zenzoforum.com (testing a $zenzo community)

so, what is yours?

Hey Helmuts,
good thread to start :)
please share, does your artforweb site generate any revenue?
- my late father-in-law was a pro photographer who has left in the region of 25k images as slides, prints and negatives in boxes for his family - and I have no idea what to do with them...

- was thinking to start to sort thru them and try some on istock or Alamy...

I know a guy who had a good business selling a range of these on Amazon - he was doing $10-15k a month at the peak, but that was a couple of years ago, so don't know where he's up to now :)

exactly my case as well, only a guy I know is making around £5k/month on eBay with these.

good business!

:) it doesn't make any profit - an occasional G Ads click and that's it :) .. had much more photos there - site was hacked, I didn't take timely action to restore it from a backup, and at some point just recreated all and reuploaded 1/10 of photos. .. just a hobby site :)

Haha, definitely not me, Hellmuts. A very successful player who went from being an amateur who did well in my series, to winning millions in pro events. A good story.

thelowcarbonweb.com

Started this a side project to eventually monetise into a subscription service for green services with carbon neutral websites.

I'm about to embark on a new project, with a lead generation website

Would welcome ideas / examples / themes of what's currently working on a wordpress platform...

What would you do with an EMD for a specialist service?

It depends, if you are only using Etsy as your main income then yes your in trouble, Etsy should be used as a sidebar of your business or as a place to advertise new products to get the feel what is good or not. If your products are good people will pay the price you set.

Also if you are spending time concentrating on what others are doing and selling at then your wasting time :). Your time should be on your product, your pricing structure and your survival.

Good points. Agree with you. Especially as a
place to advertise new products to get the feel what is good or not & not as your main platform for sales. If your product is not unique buyers will look for lowest price which affects your results. There's also the whole "artisan vibe" on Etsy that still persists due to its origins.

My side project for the last few years has been:
https://domainsaleshistory.uk/

The current version was officially launched in late 2020.

I think the very first versions of it started as a small web page on my portfolio site, back in 2015.
Even in the early stages, this app was used to improve my skills and knowledge in programming. Over time, people submitted feature requests, culminating in what exists today.

I’ve supported a friend with all the tech for a project in the motorsport arena.

The main site is on Ghost, that he keeps populated with news:
https://www.pitlane-news.com/

Then suppliers directory using the MyListing plugin for WP:
https://directory.pitlane-news.com/

finally a site using the same plugin for drivers:
https://sponsors4racing.com/

Been running over a couple of years now, it’s made a few quid from banners and directory listings.

the main benefit at the moment is that it gives him press accreditation to access some races for free - eventually hope to attract a main sponsor that wants to get a head start in the marketspace

They are very nice. I hope all your efforts are rewarded. My site is https://cheapautoinsurance.net. I realise now that it is a difficult niche but I haven't given up on it yet. It is a good domain name.
