Does it matter when you make your site live. I have been uploading my site when it looks ok but keep adding things and then uploading it again. I have heard that you are supposed to wait until you have everything perfect (Keywords, text etc) before you make it live. Is this true and if so why, or can you change it as many times as you like without affecting your search rankings

In an ideal world you will have the site complete with all the bugs and mistakes ironed out and the testing of a dummy audience completed. However life isnt like that and therefore if you create a site, get listed and then remove the parts of your site that the SE liked, you could risk being removed. I think its ok to create a site and then tweak it as neccersary but dont do anything drastic like moving the 1st page content to the 2nd page.. Without knowing specifics, I would say get it live as soon as possible, and submit it to the search engines as soon as possible. Potentially, every time you make a change to your site it could impact your search engine position, because you will be altering site text, keyword density, html tags etc, but I still think you should go live as soon as possible and then tweak your site once it's live. Search engines like changing content anyway. Aslong as you are making improvements and adding rather than taking away content there should be no problems.

When I make my site live do search engines automatically look at my site or do I have to do anything else.

If you simply upload a brand new site with no incoming links it will take a while for Search engines to find it. You will need to submit the URL to Google to get it indexed faster. You will know when search engines are finding your pages as your hosting cpanel/stats will tell you that Bots have been on your pages. Once your site is more established and has incoming links the bots will visit alot more often and crawl all around the site on a daily basis. |
