What is the story behind this template?

Can't think of any other examples right now but I have seen countless mini sites using this template, many of which have a link to the main website of the business.

What's the scoop here?

Looks like it's done by ufindus which is a division of BT

I thought it was a Yell.com standard template but seems to be the standard template from ufindus.

I presume it's sold as part of a listing subscription, they get a domain, minisite and link from ufindus

The clue to the template origins is in the sourcecode; <meta name="generator" content="BT Customerstreet Sitebuilder 3.6"/>

Thanks for the replies. Yes, seems to be a template from BT Sitebuilder, which is possibly being resold by some major hosting companies.

BT have a web design company (can’t remember of hand who) that use and work with BT and cold call companies offering their web design service on there cms (most of which already have a web site, so sold as a second site).

They also offer a premium service, more of a bespoke service.

They then say if you allow them to add a link to the bottom of your site to on of their directories there will in turn add your site to their directories.

They then charge a yearly cost, which includes hosting.

Bottom line is keyword domains + same keywords added to Title Element of the home page of the mini sites + they add the mini site to their directories = works ok for very low competitive keyword terms in the serps.
