I currently use Couponpress and would like to be able to split the category description by having a part of the description at the top of the page and the rest at the bottom under the vouchers.

This to increase the clickthrough.

In my case the category description is this long that it almost hides the vouchers which are below it, so therefore I would like to split the description.

Is it essential to split the description so it's above as well as below? If not, should be easy to edit the theme file so that the entire description box is below the vouchers, which I'm sure would have the desired effect.

Edit: newpbc has a direct solution to your question, not sure why I didn't think of that!

If your comfortable editing theme files you could just add some text as a custom field underneath

Have had a browse on the different html/wordpress sites and found that you can actually hide part of the text using Javascript so users will only see this when they press a "read more" button.

Some of the big Voucher Players are using this, i.e. myvouchercodes.co.uk and they haven't had too many problems with SEO

I agree that you need to split the content and make sure the codes/offers are above the fold to improve conversion rate.
