Question Hello there

New member posting for first time, so pse excuse intro.

Have about 230 domains, best 3grocks.com and .co.uk , worst I'm still shocked to think m4travel.org which turns out to have, shall we say, odd implications.

come across a scary scam though which I can post next. Anyone come across this email before?

Thanks for allowing me on the board

Jim

"Hello,

I'm contacting you regarding your domain name for sale.

Did you get offers from other people?

I need to know your desired price. Please don't ask to make an offer. Just email the desired price.

I run a software company. We develop client-server systems and databases in Oracle for a local company. Buying and selling domain names is not my main business. Just another way to invest money and make additional income.

Best regards,
Mark Fasciano Ph.D.

For Sale

Hi Jim

That email has been doing the rounds for a long time. I see that he is asking for a 'desired price' these days.

Tell him that you want £1million for the domain and make him go through the rest of the speil.

Not had one of those for a long time - at least two years. Scumbags!

What's the scam though? Just timewasting? Or is it more sinister than that?

I think he then wants the domain appraising, but a third party, which is probably him. This costs money, you think it's value because you've got a sale in the bag etc, then the sale never comes off... I've had a few. Told him he should know the market better and learn the value of names himself.

Never heard anything back.

The guy obviously reads this forum because the domain he was interested in was professionalpension.com which i own.

The only place I have mentioned it for sale so far is here!

If you read this Frank Moss phd you get the domain valued and let me know what YOU think its worth!!

HERES WHAT HE SENT ME IN RESPONSE WHEN I REPLIED WITH A PRICE

Can you provide me with independent valuation (appraisal)? I need such
valuation for name priced in your range. I consider your name as an
investment. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a
profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's
very important for you and me to know the current market value of your
domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal
company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals.
I will only accept appraisals from independent appraisal companies I know
and trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies
in a forum

http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/49057.htm

Juck check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.PayPal.com, www.escrow.com, check or
wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.
