Make an end-user level offer and you may get a reply.

What do you mean by 'end-user' offer?

Also since I'm here - I've got a few good .com domains... where are the best places to advertise them?

I'm only really playing with buying and selling domains for projects I work on - web developer by trade

Thanks very much

I mean "make an offer that's in line with the REAL market value of the domain name". In other words, if it's the kind of domain that a company would be willing to pay 10,000 pounds for, you'll probably need to offer 10,000 pounds to get their attention.

Another way of putting it: "Don't expect a bargain".

Thanks - good advice I'm sure

I've got the domain that I want with a hyphen in it - which is pretty good anyway so don't want to pay silly money

where's best to see what people actually pay for domains so I can get a good idea of value and what to offer

Define "silly money".

life-insurance.co.uk might be worth 5,000 pounds. lifeinsurance.co.uk might easily be worth 100,000 pounds plus. The hyphen makes a MASSIVE difference.

There are a couple of "domain prices" sites but the majority of the data is taken from reseller platforms so it might not be of much help.

Why don't you work out what the domain is worth to you and make them an offer. All your going to do is pi** them off by lowballing and they won't take you seriously.

If you don't want to stump up the cash for the domain then at least you have the hyphen version.

I define silly money from the perspective of a small business plan - if it gets into the thousands I'll have to go with the hypen option

Ok the domain I'm after isn't as generic as life-insurance so I don't see that the value would be in the ranges you are talking about - I don't really see that it would be of much interest to many other people to be honest

So the message is work out what you are willing to pay and make an offer

Lets see how I get on then??

Thanks

When you say you "tried emailing them" are you emailing them something like:-

Subject: widgets.com - US$15,000 offer

Dear Sirs,

I would like to offer US$15,000 to buy your domain name widgets.com.

Please let me know how we can complete this transaction. The funds are available and can be in escrow within 24 hours.

Regards,

YourName

Yup the only way to get an answer from Tag is with your offer in the subject line and the offer better be mid-end user rates.

Don't waste your time low balling as your likely to end up on the wrong end of their mail filters and not even get through ever again.
