Anyone know any good tutorials on wordpress theme modifications? I've just installed the lifestyle theme and lost as to modifying it. The wordpress site and forum isn't great for searching for specifics.

the best way is to take a copy of the theme's folder so you have an edited version and the original to get back to at any point.

Then you need to get google up and find any theme specific forums that will have covered almost any tweak you care to make. Is Lifestyle the StudioPress theme? They have an active forum under studiopress.com/support

Thanks for the offer but I'd end up doing your brain in. I'm just looking for a tutorial on the main files.
First thing I want to do is just enter text content in place of where the featured content plugin appears on the demo. The plugin doesn't come installed on the template.

I have a folder here: lifestyle_30 is that what you have? If not it should be similar, but maybe not exact the same.

Open wp-content/themes/lifestyle_30/home.php

Look for the div called "featuredtop"

By default that will include the featured content gallery, but you can remove/comment that line and put your text in there. If you put your own DIV, you will have to change the CSS to style it, or edit the CSS for "featuredtop"

That should do it.

(ps. haven't tried this yet, will do it now)

You will also need to remove/comment the "if(function_exists('gallery_styles'))" before this bit and the "end if" at the end, as this checks whether the plugin is there or not.

Themes can vary so much on what and where to edit content & functions it can be impossible to do a universal tut. It's best to backup, play, break and retry Learn!

Or sat with someone who does know or on the phone to ask questions.

Is it the lifestyle theme from studiopress ?
If so there own support forum is very good.
