Now I knew there was a reason why I don't use SEDO to sell my domains...

Have not used them sionce 2013-11-26 and I emailed them back in early 2014 to remove all my domains as managing over 1000 domains through their system was a royal pain.

With no contact or emails in over 2 years, over Xmas someone tried to buy one of my previous domains (that I assumed they had deleted). But I let this drop in March of this year and someone else owns.

SEDO has not pciked up on the change in the owner, so didn't remove the domain from my account or put into a "pending ownership confirmation" mode even.

I then get this 5 minutes after letting them know the domain is no longer mine :

    Outstanding Commission Invoice

With the purchase agreement for xxxxxxxxx.co.uk you agreed to sell this domain via Sedo’s online marketplace.

The transfer could not be completed, as you have failed to complete certain necessary steps despite several requests for additional information and offers of assistance from us.

At this time Sedo GmbH is enforcing its claim on the outstanding commission as per our terms and conditions:

    ********************
    Excerpt from our T&C’s:

5.2.4. Penalties for Failing to Perform Obligations
Sedo reserves the right to cancel the domain transfer and escrow transaction if one of the parties to the purchase and sale agreement fails to fulfil its obligation to cooperate in the transfer process after two (2) requests are made by Sedo via the email addresses provided in his/her user account ("Failed Transfer").

In the case of a Failed Transfer, Sedo reserves the right to collect any applicable commission fee from that party who has violated his/her obligation to cooperate. Furthermore, any claims for damage compensation or contractual performance can be asserted by the non-breaching party against that party which violates his/her obligation to cooperate.
    ********************

Please pay the full sum for the outstanding commission as stated in the invoice in the “My Sedo-Billing” section of your account within 5 days.
Your account will be locked until this is paid.
If we have not received the money by then, we may initiate legal and/or collection proceedings

Great see their systems have moved in in 5 years (with lots of money made on sales) and their customer service still excels... :|

Sedo have never initiated a legal proceeding in their life. They constantly allow deadbeat bidders with no legal repercussions. I told them to stick it and closed my account with them months ago after probably having made them hundreds of thousands over the years. They are a waste of space and do nothing to promote a sale. Take no notice of them. T&C aren't the be all and end all - for example if they had a clause 'you agree to give us your first born if you don't pay' it couldn't be enforced. I logged in, deleted all my domains, and then set my servers to autotrash any emails coming from them so I don't have to listen to their crap or read their spam.

The same happened to me recently too.

I have closed my account and will never buy or sell with them again.

Tell them to go fly a Kite! Collection Process? they couldn't collect a pack of sweets from a toddler I would have replied with LOL. Point your domains to your own website, you will be a far better salesman and is free with no commission :).

I'll be pointing mine at undeveloped.com, their sales landers are quality and they don't stick ppc ads all over them like sedo.... they actually require a sale to happen in order to make their money, unlike sedo who probably make a hefty proportion of their revenue through parking.

    sedo is becoming dated.

Sedo is stuck in the last decade, the problem is that they do so well in the dnjournal lists most weeks that it is clear listing there is a necessity.

e.g. Last week 10 of the top 20 reported domain sales took place via Sedo.

*reported* is the key word. There are far more sales that go unreported because there is no benefit to the buyer or seller to shout about it. Sedo actively volunteer such information.

I know that, Brandbucket for example don't report but have some high value domains for sale.

Their minimum fee is a bit of a kicker for the bog standard .co.uk sales.... I'd never use their landing pages.

I like the look of undeveloped.com, I'm slowly building a portfolio of mainly .com's (going to take a long time to rebuild), and I should think I'll be mostly using undeveloped.com landers.... 9% fee is reasonable too.

Portfolio isn't going to be quite big enough to justify building my own marketplace + landers, plus can't be bothered with 'make offer' and all the lowball offers and long drawn out negotiations, prefer to just do BIN prices only.

To be honest I'm really not a fan of this whole making a logo for your domain thing, I don't very often see domainers who are also good at graphic design, and I like the fact that people can pay in 12 monthly installments via undeveloped... I think that could generate quite a few sales, and there is something appealing about getting an income for 12 months from a big domain sale.... sell a couple on 12 month plans and that takes away your renewal anxiety!

I think efty has a lot of promise though.

Undeveloped was initially 15%, no way I'd pay that for a landing page sale. I'd be willing to pay 9% for the extra sales that I suspect monthly payments will generate. I think I read that efty are looking into doing something similar with escrow.com, if they do then I'll reconsider.

Have a search on Hunter.io @TinkyWinky . You'll get some addresses and the format they use.
