Its looking like my current CCTV cameras are useless, 2 have stopped working after the beast from the east, leaving 1 static camera which is pointless.

I'm looking ideally at 2 different options... 1), PVR Based and 2), Synology NAS Based.

I require PTZ on 1 camera which can be controlled via App or PVR/Synology, around say 50m Night Vision (mid way), actually only need about 20m but overshoot it, ideally 1080p, a reasonable optical zoom range, need IP66/67/68 and ideally I'd like to keep at least half my liver ;)

The others cameras I'm open to suggestions, but need 2 more, all are outdoors.

I'm sure there was a thread about CCTV as I remember posting about my old setup, but all I could find was https://www.acorndomains.co.uk/threads/what-are-your-current-obsessions.151128/, I'm sure others here have some nice setups.

My last foscam you couldn't control the ptz using surv station, I have about 8 cam licenses spread across my Synology units, some come with 1 some like the + models have 2.

Which actual cams do you have (model no) ?

Does the ptz works on the Android app ?

I have 4 x Foscam C1 720p. I don't have any PTZ capable cameras . What I should have said is that I have seen it within in interface but have not used it.

Out of curiosity do any of these systems upload photos/videos to the cloud (in case burglars take the CCTV system to hide their tracks)?

I've set mine up to do it manually - saving into a folder that gets pushed directly up to my OneDrive account..

The synology app can be set to upload and you can set automated tasks to upload to amazon, google, web hosting, anywhere.

I'll have a look at those, Foscam does seem the main on with Synology support, I'll have to order one from Amazon and test it so I can have a hassle free return if not.

Why has nobody mentioned the Nest outdoor cams? The latest model is the Nest Cam IQ.

Nest used to have some major security flaws.
    https://gizmodo.com/this-nest-security-flaw-is-remarkably-dumb-1793524264

Mind you, so did the Foscam C1
    https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2017/11/14/foscam-c1-vulnerabilities/

More Foscam security flaws, including default passwords hard-coded into their cameras
    https://www.tomsguide.com/us/foscam-camera-flaws,news-25254.html

I guess the moral should be to do some Googling around terms like "security flaw", "back door", "hacked" etc. and the camera make/model you're considering, and make sure whatever problems were found have since been patched.

    I've been looking at these...

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B076ZLSCF5/?tag=acorn06-21

    This one looks interesting...

Beyond looking for features I want, PTZ, Decent Optical Zoom, Synology Compat (all these seem to be) I haven't looked much deeper.

I have a DS213+ I think in a cupboard, I'm going to dust that off as I think it has 2 Licenses, I'll then contact Synology and see if I can move licenses off one of the other +, then I can run 4 cams off it, if not I'll buy some licenses.

Edit: I'm looking at buying from amazon for ease of ordering 2 and sending 1 or both back if not suitable.

    Hi Skinner

We had a load of AHD PTZ cameras from Alibaba as part of some testing for https://www.cctv.co.uk product lines a while back. While the guys use more modern stuff now, they came in miles cheaper than those you linked to above.

PM me and I can dig out the supplier. Wasn't a min order and the PTZ worked great from an app controlled via the DVR

We have the Swann HD cameras in our warehouse which are perfectly fine and at home we have the ring floodlight cam which quite honestly is one of the best pieces of technology we have ever bought. You can set motion zones, live view, 2 way talk and even set off a siren if someone is doing something they shouldnt or you fancy making someone jump out their skin as they walk by :)
