If you believe the .UK's will become established then British Gas not wanting it makes no difference. You have a good domain name, but I wonder what the buyer will do with it? Most brands have already got a "brand name" or hold the co.uk and the uk of a generic, so no obvious quick flick ( same as many .uk's ). So either it has to be developed or tagged onto an existing business and hence has "internal" value to the buyer. IMHO - If being developed then there are probably better value .uk's available ( unless the buyer has unlimited funds ).

I believe the UK's will be established so have been buying what I can based on:

bargains that we can always easily flick at atleast what we paid
we will develop as it is a sector we are interested in
we are already a player in a particular space and the domains add internal or external perceived value.

My humble view of the world:)

My stance has always been that a .UK without the corresponding couk needs to be able to stand on its own. To me, that means either geo (Manchester.uk then becomes a SLD of its own, with multiple clients using subdomains) or short (MN.uk is very brandable without a couk, and arguable a better local geo than manchester.uk).
Most of mine are neither, but I think a lot of us went a little crazy in the heat of the moment.

Perhaps a new energy company? I don’t think British Gas are a particularly major player anymore, they’ve certainly lost influence and quite frankly I’ve never used British Gas. I’m with Bulb now. Saved £300 from SSE by the way, if anyone wants a referral link whilst I’m on the subject, we both get 50 baps, get in touch.

But I think gas.uk holds a lot of value and I think it could easily get more than what it’s just sold for, if developed or sold to an existing company.

Why are you fixated on British Gas? They don't own the copyright to the name, "gas" is a term used for supply by all suppliers, not just at a utility level, but repairs, servicing etc. Not saying I see value in that sale price, but clearly someone does, either to sit on and wait, or perhaps even to put a gas price comparison site on it.

The fact that BG own the co.uk means most of their competitors won't touch it, that limits your target market to gas related industries that aren't big enough to tread on BGs toes

British Gas don't even redirect the non www.gas.co.uk so it might be less of they don't want it and more its no ones proper job to go about registering and using it.
As I said in another thread BG don't hold a monopoly any more so
    Calor gas
    FloGas
    Gazprom
    Npower
    Scotish power
EDF any of the other big energy providers could be potential customers as could a smart company who wanted to sell bottled gas the gas safe register there are plenty of other users than British gas if one comes knocking or the buyer gets in touch with the right people could well look like a shrewd investment.

Hi Phil not me on Snapnames....yes we caught quite a few and now we are buying quite a few:) My model has always been to buy the best name I can in an industry and try to develop it, as from experience just having a great name opens up doors to suppliers etc. Brand is very important also when selling a company....good domains create perceived brand value immediately with a buyer. If our projects don't work we can always recoup a large chunk of the domain cost by flicking and in many cases we have made very sizeable profits on the flick by accident. It is our model, it has worked now many times now for us as a group, I like simple so will continue to repeat:):)

See you in the auctions....or come up and see us some time...things are very different and more real since when you came up 10 years ago.

    Hi Doug,

Not Snapnames - sorry, it was GoDaddy.

It was someone who believes in .uk and has pockets to go with it ;)

Also someone who was happy to be bidding from 3am until 4am!

A nice two word for over $5,000.
