I don't get offended - it just bemuses me when people complain but don't resolve. I agree that we need a new auction place with lots of traffic. But the reason there isn't one is simply because people wouldn't use it to *get* the lots of traffic in the first place. Also to be fair you have NO idea how much traffic my site gets so 'factual information' is not really factual is it? Oh sorry - I'm getting offended :p Also the uk market is a tiny fraction of the money and volume of domain sales so how much money would people really need to spend to create a site that people want to use for free and have lots of visitors?

Robs free auctions are a great addition for the community and considering how long it has been going it is busy and on 90% of the trade buyers watch list.

I am not bothered about cosmetics too much.

Just don’t waste your time listing on DL it’s best for bargains or best to list junk you don’t want

I don't know Rob, you always seem defensive. I'm not trying to be personal, I'm trying to be logical. DomainLore has been going for years. Google ranks them pretty high for lot of domain auction related terms, it's LOGICAL to believe that more traffic is going through there than anywhere that has been operating only for a short period of time. Dropped.uk are probably doing really well traffic-wise, they're investing money into advertising on differing platforms.

Yeah maybe I do seem defensive and probably care a little more than I should. The complaints (and lack of solutions) have been the same for years here so there's not really any change :p I guess I'll just keep out more.

I would imagine Domainlore initially served the purpose of satisfying the drop-catch deals Denys had in place with his clients to split sale prices in a transparent way, it took off from there. Robs system (as he acknowledged above) is born of a need to provide as part of his service and client arrangements and there was requested demand for an add-on for public auctions. I value both of them, have one of the highest ranks on DL in fact, but I have always been concerned the lack of responsiveness may limit sales to resellers; with end users being put off, but that is neither platforms target market so both work incredibly well.

Well it's only a mobile phone that has problems. Tablets work. It's a pain in the backside to make a site with lots of information responsive down to a postage stamp. If people want a domain and they only have, or will only use, a mobile phone it's not really the heart of my problem considering it didn't set out to be what it is today. Hopefully whatever new is on the way will be geared up for mobile usage. But unless they have inherent traffic and it's free the constant cry will always be 'DL gets more views..... if only we had somewhere else to go'.

Depending on what framework you're using there are options to help you make it mobile responsive, or at least to offer a "mobi" copy of the site, if you were so inclined. Personally, not bothered as I do work on a computer most of the time whilst using the phone for casual browsing, reading and sending emails on the move and looking at pictures of provocatively dressed females on Instagram.

I use UKB all of the time on my mobile and never have any issues. The only issue I have on the mobile is with 123Parked but I use my laptop to park the domains anyhow.

Yeah although the landing pages are responsive to all sizes the admin area (ie parking) is only tablets and up. You should actually get a message telling you that if you try with a mobile. You can see from the amount of options why it's not feasible.

I think both sites have their positives and negatives.. I don't think the design matters at all.

I love Rob's email with the headline auctions which will definitely generate interest, but think splitting the caught auctions / public auctions kinda makes the caught auctions look more important. For instance, when you got to the domain I currently have on there - http://cle.uk - you can't even see the auction link until you scroll down which would make it difficult to contact potential end users about it - IMO it would be better to direct it to the actual auction page.

Will be interesting to see if the final prices align..

Yes because *to me* the caught auctions are far more important. And it is a backorder site. Look at it this way - I could continue with no impact if I removed the public auctions but I would have to close down if I removed the caught auctions. I may put a 'tab' so people can easily flick between them without scrolling.

Yeah, understand Rob - Denys does the same with the RoR auctions too but I think your emails will offset that anyway.

Guys like me take a lot of this detail into account when listing domains though.

A domain typed in will now redirect straight to the auction page

That's great. I don't know what others think but I'd prefer the domain column on the home page to be left aligned - rather than the central alignment you have at preset. Think it would be easier on the eye to have all the domains lining up.

looks good - it's great having 3 free auction listings at a time. But how about offering customers the chance to buy additional non-refundable slots at say £1 each (maybe sold in blocks of 5 credits for £5) so we could list up to 8 public auctions (inc the 3 free slots) at any one time.
