Yep. Probably right, although Soundcloud doesn't generally result in sales or streams on other platforms.

1000 plays equals pennies on Spotify isn't it? Get picked up for use on an Ad and you get £20k. Isn't giving content away the new way to make money ;)

Sounds great, every bit as good as anything else in the charts. Btw, the copyright text says "BIg Town" (capital i), looks like BLG.

That's the experiment. It can actually be pretty lucrative dependant on who owns the rights. Most complaints traditionally come from bands whos rights deals are with labels, so they get a cut from the labels not spotify. and they got shafted on the digital deals. That's all changing these days.

Had heard a few bands crying about the money they made on Spotify but didn't stop to think that they might just be talking about what the record company hands them after their share.

That guy that wrote The Martian gave it away free for years until it finally landed on some Hollywood producers desk and got optioned year after year for $50k a year then finally became a movie. He's minted from his free book now!

Yep. Traditional record company deals have been awful on the digital rights sides. Its got much better recently. Spotify pays out about 70% of all income to rights holders, basically divided by stream counts. It can add up pretty quickly if you get on the right playlists. For instance to take a random Luke Bryan track that's had so far 154 million streams on Spotify alone. That would translate to rights payments of over a million bucks just from plays. You then have same again roughly in ASCAP/PRS payments to collect if your songwriter/music rights holder also. Thats just on one streaming service.

Obviously highly doubtful itll get 154 million streams lol.

Sounds very good production wise and singer has a good voice

The song is pleasant but pretty generic, modern coldplay-ish in that regard

Need a better hook to make people want to listen again

Pleasant album filler but not a hit single

A few years ago, a few buddies and myself ran a website for emerging indie artists - the idea being to show videos rather than just the music (kind of how I got into domains thinking about it!) With that, we also ran a monthly live music night in Tin Pan Alley, London, in a basement where the Rolling Stones recorded a few albums - showcasing the best of artists that had signed up to the website and wanted the gig. Did that for a few years and discovered this guy - amazing songwriter and guitarist. We tried to get them some deserved recognition but distance (they're from Kidderminster), lots of new babies between the lot of us and tbh a general lack of experience on our part didn't help. Still time...

    F#CKING B#LLOX... yeah.... F#CK!!!!!
