At last face masks compulsory, common sense prevails.

I now wonder how a 4 month break in habits will effect the future of many peoples way of life.
Anyone who has overcome an addiction will know how this works, there is a tendency when a load
is lightened to not go back to where you were.

This is going to hurt the economy even more with leisure

They better start pumping out universal basic income sooner rather than later before rioting ensues

I won't be wearing one, and wouldn't recommend anyone else does, unless they're a surgeon.

Police are exempt...like they have been to all the CV rules. Doesn't seem to have affected them disproportionately. Good luck trying to fine people for not wearing one...whilst not wearing one. Is this purely designed to foster contempt?

"In most Western countries, the peak of coronavirus infections was already reached in March or April and often before the lockdown. The peak of deaths in most Western countries was in April. Since then, hospitalizations and deaths have been declining in most Western countries (see graphs below).

This development also applies to countries without a lockdown, such as Sweden, Belarus and Japan. Cumulative annual mortality in most western countries continues to be in the range of a mild (e.g. CH, AT, DE) to strong (e.g. USA, UK) influenza season."

So why introduce the wearing of masks now? When a. they can do more harm than good, and b. their effectiveness is minimal at best?

I tend to agree on masks. I know culturally it's alien, but there's a growing body of evidence that it makes a difference. Keeping the infection rate low is paramount because once it's high (see Florida) and hospitals are full, outside of another lockdown which no-one wants, infection rates remain high.

I do feel sorry for the highstreet though. As Murray says it's suffering, and was anyway. No doubt Amazon and co are on cloud nine, but that's just a shuffling of money to corporations. I'm doing my best to support local businesses now. I've not stopped doing anything I did prior, just trying to sensible and considerate about it in the process.

I have some n95 masks. I think all of these things take some getting used to (since it's alien to me to wear one) but after I while it's something that you don't really give a second thought to. It's a polarising issue I know, but we're always learning more, and I'd rather wear one and find out that it makes less of a difference than I thought, than not bother and wonder how many people I've helped bump people off. It's not much of an inconvenience so I just get on with it where appropriate.

Should be more worried about lockdown, and impositions such as masks...which are dangerous. It's not far removed from putting a bag over your head, which I remember being drummed into us never to do as kids. We're not meant to breathe in what we just expelled.

Far more worrying than CV, are the effects of lockdown.

I counter you with the following video that argues the opposite.
In fact he wears 3, yes 3 masks to call out the bullshit.

I'd guess there is probably a fair difference between medical masks and just cloth ones

I don't think it probably matters for for the 15 minutes max you're likely to spend in a shop though

    Sitting for prolonged periods kills.

"An analysis of 13 studies of sitting time and activity levels found that those who sat for more than eight hours a day with no physical activity had a risk of dying similar to the risks of dying posed by obesity and smoking."

    https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/expert-answers/sitting/faq-20058005

Now, if sitting kills, why does "the government" (and Bill Gates) insist you sit down while driving? Ever thought about that on your long commute?

It's obvious to anyone not part of the brainwashed masses.

I'd rather stand up and walk around while driving, but no, my right to do so is denied. "They" make it the law that you HAVE to wear a seat belt (aka straightjacket) to ensure you remain seated. It's like being in Guantanamo Bay. Maybe worse.

THE BASTARDS ARE TRYING TO KILL YOU WHILE PRETENDING TO SAVE LIVES.

Youtube video to follow shortly as proof.

I'd also like to point out how easy it would be to squeeze that little rubber tube to prevent oxygen getting to the monitor, helping to spread lies and hysteria among the conspiracy theorists and anti-mask proponents.

Your 2nd sentence is exactly right. If you don't want to wear a mask, stay away from enclosed public spaces. Simple.

You are kidding right.. maybe 3 months ago but the horse has bolted now and all that. A really backwards decision that will only crush the economy more - you will obey!!

Yes I agree, should have been earlier. However better late than never and maybe stop the rest of the horses bolting.

wearing masks is now compulsory, anyone who disagrees is entitles to but that's not the issue. 4 months of lockdown has maybe changed peoples habits and that might have put back years of advertising to addict people to certain trends and activities. I just wonder the effect on individuals who all of a sudden see the change of routine has maybe had a beneficial effect on their lives, health, outlook and well being and will not go back to where they were before the lockdown.

What are your thoughts about about pubs and restaurants and those not requiring masks? (as best I can tell)

That would be nice if it were true

The economy runs off consumer spending, everything is going to go to sh$t if people don't get right back out there and continue with their bad habits

But how they're going to? I couldn't predict a % of jobs loss because of lockdown but I reckon it's going to very very high by the end of the year

A lot of bankrupt companies are coming

This isn't going to go well, we aren't coming out of lockdown into a brave new world

The thing that springs to mind is , you don't have to go into a pub or restaurant. You might have to use public transport and go to the shops.

A second lockdown would put the lid on the coffin. Almost anything is now better than a second lockdown over the lucrative Christmas period. Trying not to be controversial so as to not let the trolls jump on the thread.
