I've actually been on Acorn since 2011, but in the last few years I've been busy with nursing and stuff (like getting married) and as I forgot my previous log in details I have created a new user profile.
I have taken plenty of interest in the domain industry for nearly 20 years. I was formerly an elected representative in the ICANN-AtLarge organisation, campaigning for more voice for ordinary internet users.
I also ran a campaign, based on a site called 'The Internet Challenge', through which I called out hundreds of people (including various Registrars) who faked trademark claims to snatch thousands of premium domains in the .info roll out.
This drew me into participation in ICANN meetings, and interaction with Vint Cerf and others. Although Vint himself was always very affable, I was appalled and disappointed by the 'laissez-faire' attitude taken by ICANN in dealing with registry and registrar abuse of process.
This has made be suspicious and sceptical about the ways Registries and some Registrars work together in ways that are financially advantageous to both, but not always advantageous to ordinary net users.
Outside of the domains world, I am a nurse, a parent and grandparent, a wife, a novelist, and a Carmelite in my spirituality. My interests include mountaineering - such as my website here: http://www.greenlandexpedition.org - and women's football (where until recently I played as a goalkeeper), cooking, music, writing, the history of my Gordon ancestors, malt whisky, space travel, Shakespeare, Arsenal, and dissidents.
I do not usually buy domains to make money, but to use them. Having said that, I sold poetry.co.uk here a few years ago to help my nurse training. I believe the administration of the namespaces of the world matters to more than just registries and powerful registrars, and I believe in clear and fair process, accountability, and involvement of net users in the development of policy.Interact
