    Evening all

As a buyer of many domains on here, ive had many dealings/conversations in the main forums and private messages with other members, and what ive found is that for many of us, being a 'domainer' is just a part time gig to bring in a bit of cash on the side.

So im interested to find out what others 'day jobs' are.

    I'll kick off....

I work full time for a large medical device manufacturing company. My actual job title is...'Global Digital Business Specialist' (I know....corporate BS title!).

That basically means that I project manage all the 'digital' marketing campaigns for the firm. From initial concept through to launch and then ongoing promotion.

What do you do? Or is domaining your full time job?

the reason why domaining isn't taken seriously is because it is "bit of cash on the side", you can buy domains with paypal and sell them via paypal and no questions asked, you can even register domains via paypal, I had a deal fall through the other day because I insisted on a invoice be produced, that is why domaining has an awful reputation.

    occupation : ex domainer

    Taken seriously by who?

    To be fair...
I've had quite a few dealings with other people who also do it on the side.
I'd say quite a few of them deal in a more professional & timely manner than some of those who do it full time.

Domaining can be a 'bit of cash on the side' or a full income.
Same as anything else, It's whatever you can or want to make of it.

    What's your job now?

    Good mix of jobs!

I also know a member on here that works in the education sector and another fella that makes pies for a living!

If we were to run a poll I bet the majority have day jobs.

To be honest id love to be able to say that i was at a level where buying/selling domains brought in a full time income - so i could give up the day job!

Until then i need to pay the bills!

So? Pretty sure you can live without an invoice? Being able to register a domain via Paypal makes the industry a joke?

If you're a Ltd company, invoices and proper accounts are compulsory. I believe the Paypal point was in relation to taxes - tempting to under-report if the cash flows in and out behind the perceived privacy of a Paypal login.

It's like a tradesman getting annoyed when you insist on a full VAT invoice when they were hoping for cash in hand.

I'm a developer and (until recently) a web project manager, but what I really wanted to be was the private gynecologist to Heather Locklear. Oh well, back to computing.

I ply my trade by changing....that's the key, change

the online marketplace is a different animal now than at any other time, I used to be a fulltime domainer, I used to buy domains from liquidators and spend hours cross matching lists to find domains but google and nominet have systematically paid to that.

development is key for me now.

all honesty i'm not bothered about people earning beer money from domains but when it becomes on a grand scale and people mask identity and move operations overseas (only there business not the person/s), using spouses names on the domain registry and just anything to avoid tax it becomes harder to make money on a level playing field.

I could tell some stories :D

Photographer by trade. But the cheapness of good equipment, and the job centre are slowly putting the industry to bed. Its a dying art for anyone with real talent. I don't do the stock, so just have clients to rely on.

I've also moved into Affiliate marketing and eCommerce for the last 10 years or so. That is now paying over and above the photography, and has done so for the last 4 years.

In the last year or so, I've started to dabble a bit in domains :)

Interesting to see how many people are working for others rather than/as well as themselves. And as already been pointed out, a very wide mix of jobs...
