    Just received this.

    Upcoming changes to Domainmonster.com

Within the next 48 hours, the Domainmonster.com website will be closing. Visitors will be redirected to 123-reg.co.uk. This is because Domainmonster.com is becoming a part of 123 Reg.

As an existing customer there is no need to be alarmed; all of your existing Domain Names will remain in your Domainmonster.com account - there will be no changes to any of your settings and everything will be exactly as you left it. You can also continue to purchase new domains through your Control Panelor click through the link on the 123 Reg landing page.

For all the existing and new products you purchase from Domainmonster.com, you will continue to be supported by the Domainmonster.com service teams. New purchases from 123 Reg will be supported by the 123 Reg service teams.

Domainmonster.com and 123 Reg are brands both belonging to the same group. This means that the same high-quality dedicated staff will be working on your account at 123 Reg, so you will still receive the superior level of performance and service you are used to from Domainmonster.com.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change in the meantime, you can contact us by email we're always happy to help.

    Kind regards,
    The Domainmonster Team

Just seen this myself, we've had massive issues with 123-reg in the past with constant downtime. Anyone recommend a decent alternative?

Wow, that means I certainly can't recommend DomainMonster to my clients any more!

Does anyone know of a simple and reliable registrar that I could direct people uncertain about the whole "domain thing" towards to get them off our tag when we sell them a name? It has to be one that will automatically accept incoming TAG changes.

I'll be deleting my Domainmonster account then!

Edit - not that I can, it doesn't appear my account is recognised anymore :D

I don't understand what they are saying... first they say "the Domainmonster.com website will be closing. Visitors will be redirected to 123-reg.co.uk", then they say "all of your existing Domain Names will remain in your Domainmonster.com account". What am I missing here?

fasthosts are ok. UK support. I've never had an issue since that little security breach they had where everyone's account got hacked.

I've not used the domains side of their business but I've been very impressed with 20i's hosting and support. If their domain side of things is anything like this it should be good.

    Maybe @Blossom could advise more?

48 hours notice is very much of the short side.

I think for now you will still be able to login using the direct link https://www.domainmonster.com/login which will also be shown on the 123 landing page accessed through "domainmonster.com"

Not sure how long this will last for though?

Both terrible brands anyway, I had email hosting with Domainmonster and was constantly plagued with downtime, support were polite but weren't all that bothered. Last summer I had no email for 9 days in a row. 123-Reg equally as bad.

Hasn't HEG owned domain monster for years? and now owned by GoDaddy ?

Wouldn't be surprised if a few other brands close down to consolidate.

    Wasn't @RobM going to start a registrar?

Yes, to my understanding they've been owned by HEG for awhile.

    Seems that way.

Yes still working on it. Not a 2 minute job will probably be a month or so. I actually want to set it up so that anyone with a tag can utilise it to be public facing as well so being designed on two fronts.

I thought about it and the problem is you make it attractive e.g. only charging 0.25p on top even with 20,000 domains.. a few grand for all that liability.. have to be hell of a scale to make it worth while.. then we're talking about the practical aspects of dealing with daily support issues hundreds/thousands of users, security, day to day running, infrastructure costs. This is not to say there not something in it perhaps.

I run a couple of businesses here so will have multiple support staff (that I'm currently paying in other avenues) as well as already having infrastructure in place. Also will be more than 0.25p profit per domain per year plus other services, webhosting, emails etc. Yes it won't make a fortune but will be what nominet *supposedly* want tagholders to do even if the 'tools' they provide are incomplete or poorly programmed :p Anything has to be better than 123reg and gospammy.
