Anyone willing to say what they've earned from expired RoR catches? Whether they're in profit or not?

    Fascinated to hear.

I've made around £2000 currently taking off the costs of reg fees, script etc

Turned down about another £2000 total in offers

I think all in all with what I have left I should end up making at least around £10,000 from it but time will tell

Compared to a lot of people the above isn't much, but it was fun and well worth taking part, with a bit more luck and maybe a better list order could have been more fruitful

Do you still disagree with this post :p

Edit> I guess something else to factor in is I caught a few names I personally really wanted that I would have been willing to buy for around £1000 total (probably would have been priced out though)

  4. Approx £8k after reg fees etc, plus about £500 in donations. Spent best part of 100 hours working on it, so £80 an hour for a couple of weeks. Paid for a holiday and the garden being done so can't complain too much.

I continue to be surprised by the prices these are going for, kicking myself a bit not gambling a bit more with the quotas...

It's a significant sale, and biggest reported so far, so would be great to see it reported on dnjournal.
I think they'd need either buyer or seller or the selling platform to report it.

Definitely looking to make a good profit but won't really know for a year or two. Most importantly, it seems that the dark cloud that .uk (and the consultation before it) brought onto the uk domain market has burst. There is activity now and both .co.uk and .uk are selling again at reasonable prices - but still not at the pre .uk consultation levels. I think a lot of uk domainers will have lost tens of thousands over the last 5 or 6 years in depressed prices - so the current excitement is just returning some of that cash.

Funnily I don't find this unreasonable. I've seen people list domains in the 'what RoR' did you get and if they got to the end users this sort of money is on the cards for sure from what I can see. It's a difficult question 'who much did you make'. But to code of the thread £60 in confirmed sales RoR only so far but yet to even really get started selling as still can't let go of the idea there's still one more cracker out there. Domains you could just reg a few days ago literally made my eyes blink at the screen.

I personally haven't had a domain elevation like this since the .UK was proposed and sent things into a meltdown. Probably over 100hrs put in now, no fancy gear, kicking myself a bit I was a week behind it [always log into acorn], but it's either the second or third most productive domain event I've ever had. Its also nice to get stuff you want to develop.

I can see my self trading more routinely on DL\here,in a few months which is the next step up for me and hopefully mainly as a buyer.

If your domain was worth £100 and you get given 5 years as only person on earth who can reg it's twin brother or sister both genetically identical and at the end they are each worth £50 you've [fees aside] neither won or lost or am I missing something here? If say after 5 years one is worth £150 and other only £70 have you not significantly gained?

I am having difficulty about understanding motive and consciousness of people who openly discuss their existing and future possible earnings of an asset in an open forum. This is plain stupid and childish beyond recognition.

I find it very motivating and positive to read about other people doing well

Would the forum be better if we reserved it to domain sales posts and rude comments?

It was reading about Barry's sale of gold.co.uk that first got me seriously interested in domains so I'm thankful people are open to talk about things

Everything said in here has no greater meaning than if you put up a domain for 10k and someone hit sold - you've just telegraphed same info. It doesn't tell anyone anything about you more than an interval of specific transaction in one sphere of your activities. Folks speculating on 'future earnings' are offering no more info than 'pricing' i.e. their own appraisal, in this case virtual appraisals cos we can't even see what domains they are talking about, and which in domaining literally has no meaning until the proof is in the pudding. Idea asset base or 'earnings' are somehow covert info causes me to wonder what to think next time I visit a domainers online domain shop where loads of data about sales and values can be on display.
