Can't believe they've just randomly changed it... I'd be fuming if I'd lost anything due to this shambles.
While I agree with your sentiment, Nominet bill monthly so it doesn't make any difference to cashflow if you renew at the last possible moment or at any time in the same month.
@RobM is the backordering system now inline with drops? I've got ones backordered for today which haven't dropped (e.g. adapter.uk) so I'm guessing it's all good now?
Yes I updated everything. However nothing has dropped today so I wonder if nominet are going to have a day of no drops to stay with the date process as before
If they do fix the 'non-issue', are they going to reissue all the emails with the correct drop date since mid-September?
Who knows? Gosh I only wish they gave us a list of drop times.....oh look - there's an option for that in discussion phew
If Nominet didn't want us to hammer the DAC during the maintenance window they've completely messed this up.
I'm still getting "Domain name has been suspended" emails for domains I have renewed the day before they're suspended
Nominet have just responded to an email I sent them when it started a couple of days ago saying they would get back to me (no answer to the simple question - when is the expiry).
Yep just received *exactly* the same email. So the funny thing is if it returns to how it was they'll be 91 days in expiry dropping on the 92nd day (as it's been for years). They had the chance to move to the 90 days in expiry dropping on 91st day that they keep bleating on about but today no domains dropped so looks like they're going back to the 'normal' system which doesn't correspond with their official stance. I was up until 4am changing the software for the lists, backordering, hosted chasing etc and now looks like I'll have to change it all back lol Basically if they want to stick to their policy they need to dump all today's dropping domains before midnight and carry on the way it is. If they don't do this they are contradicting themselves. It seems impossible to ever get a straight answer from them about anything.
Anyone got a domain due to drop today that they can renew? Because if the renewal goes through it's still in the expiry period. If it doesn't but still remains suspended and they don't allow the renewal and it drops tomorrow then they're in a situation where there *is* a 90 day renewal period but they can hold a domain indefinitely after that and drop it 'any time after the 90th day' which could be next week, next month, etc. This would make droplists irrelevant and backordering almost impossible. I don't think this is the case though because there hasn't been any drops today at all that I can see.
Two days ago domains started dropping a day earlier than normal. They did it yesterday as well. This aligned them with nominet's official stance of '90 days in expiry then released'. However they then added that it's always been like that - pretty much insulting the intelligence of anyone who has been catching domains for the last 2 decades. However the first day we assumed it was because of some maintenance. The second day it looked like that was how it's going to be now on. This would mean nominet finally for once would be right about their own policy. But then today no domains dropped
Literally nothing has dropped today... I'm thinking they're performing some sort of internal experiment to see what effect the drop catching industry actually has on the system. Either way, I find this totally unprofessional for a multi-million-pound company.
I haven't seen anything drop or be renewed today that's close to the 90th day. Two options for tomorrow, double drop day, or we've reverted back and those we were expecting to drop today will drop tomorrow, and Nominet will state nothing happened.
Or... they are correct in that domains can be renewed for 90 days *only* and will drop *any time* after that Goodbye chasing. That's why we need someone with one due to drop today they weren't going to renew to see if it'll let them. If it does it's still in expiry and 90 days expiry is rubbish otherwise it's not looking good...
