I was hoping for a bit more of a formulaic or orchestrated transfer process for a UK name of mine that I have sold. Basically I have updated the the IPS Tag. I always hate the UK transfer process - last time was .com, and I don't do too many .uk sales, but is there is risk to changing the TAG and having someone try and take control.

It depends on the tag but I’ve sold a few on Dan.com and always use the £12 transfer route with nominet then that way there is a trail.

I changed the TAG to make it faster but now annoyed at myself for not doing it with the email. Anyway back now I have changed the TAG from my nominet TAG.

The last one I sold it sat for days until the buyer accepted the transfer but once it was done I could confirm with DAN and they released the payment.
    Hope you get it sorted.

Just a bit annoyed as the papertrail is not there and worry about DAN having to go with the word of mouth. They can see the TAG etc has changed but I feel like I should have done it with their email rather then changing the registrar.

Would some more clarity here be useful from DAN's side to make this a bit more seamless and less prone to these kind of stressful issues?

If you log into nominet domains services it will still be registered under your email address as a transfer of tag doesn’t change the ownership
However if the new owner is a tag holder themselves it should be fine as they can manually change it.

To avoid this (unless you know the registrar), always request transfer via the official route (nominet) to the buyers email address. I've taken this approach with every DAN sale. If you are uneasy about the current limbo (especially if you've transferred to a public facing registrar), log in to your Nominet account, access the domain manager and the domain should still be there; transfer it back to your tag and then revert to the method mention. Peace of mind for the sake of £12 (x2)

To an Individual with a SMT TAG I always offer TAG to TAG. For non TAG holders then Nominet transfer.

This the way I shall go in future. Its been ages and I was expecting that like the .com transfer I would get some notification and to unlock. This way of just changing the TAG seems crazy as anyone could pick it up unless I am mistaken.

I checked the client has the domain, but now I worry about the proof for DAN to release the funds. Is there any easy way to now show this transfer to the buyer?

Note to self: Don't try and speed things up and make it easier for the buyer. (Non technical so I was trying to make it as painless as possible).

I did check the domain manager and it is not there anymore, so I am assuming that the buyer picked up the domain name.

I'm curious why people always capitalise TAG. On topic though, I'd sooner transfer the registrant details into their name first before changing the tag (before payment) and then offer to release the domain after payment. I sold a domain a few weeks ago though where I'd moved the domain over to the new registrant before payment had been made (as I usually do) and they wanted me to release it. I told them I wanted payment first, they asked me what is stopping me from changing the details back once the payment had been sent to me. So I told them they have all the power. If they really wanted, they could login via Nominet's online services and change the registrar themselves for £10+VAT, but I would be able to do it for free. Unfortunately, they decided that paying Nominet was a safer option and changed the tag themselves, at this point I was still without payment so I was starting to feel a bit concerned, but they sent the money over soon after. This was done through Transpact as well (first time).

I wouldn't worry, Dan are an Escrow service who understand the process which means you already have one hand on the money. Stay calm and keep communicating with the agent.
