That 6 months went quick :) Still absolutely obsessed with the game, since the posts above I've been at the range twice a week and on the course once a week.

I've turned into a bit of a Taylormade whore with M6 Driver ( D-type ) , 3 wood, 3 hybrid, irons, hitoe wedges and Spider putter ( although getting custom fitted in a few months so should have probably waited, they hold their value reasonably )

Had 5 lessons in total now and pleased with how my game and technicque is improving. Got my first handicap this week of 17.0 ( which i dont think is too shabby for 6 months )

Suffered with pull fades as my good shots and big push fades for bad shot on my driver which I seem to have ironed out last lesson with some adapter adjustments ( upright lie angle )................probably be shit again next week :D Love this game lol.

On a note my posts above, my bigger than average distances were down to good hand eye cordination and poor swing sometimes hitting it a bit thin, my irons are strong lofted though so do get a decent distance still ( 7 iron between 165 - 175ish, 5 iron 190 - 195 )

Target for end of year, below 15 HC and par the local course.

    Wow, good progress!

I play a few times a year. Use Ping steel shaft, cavity back. Love them.

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased as I was expecting it to be 20 - 22ish. On our local course ( really narrow so perfect for learning, makes wide courses feel easy ) its a par 64 and I hit between 80 - 85 most games. So breaking 80 is my target in the next month or two which i would have done at the weekend but i got the jitters when I was teeing off with an audience on the 14th lol and it messed with my head for 3 holes after that :D.

Really happy with my Irons, but need some serious focus on my wedges over the coming months as its by far the worst part of my game, also need to get a bit more consistant with distance with my driver, excellent shots I hit about 260 yards before i start to go a bit wayward either side of straight but those are 1 in 10, average shots im not hitting it much further than my hybrid and 3 wood ( about 210 ) which is frustrating but a few more lessons i think i'll make up some ground before summer kicks in.

If its a fairly flat course that you play at you could probably play wedges a bit less and play more bump shots with a hooded 7 or 8 iron. Could shave a few shots off the round.

Yeah its fairly flat, I purposely play off the white tee which are further back so that alot of the holes my tee shot lands around 100 - 120 yards from the green and I can PW on to the green, its my SW / LW area where I have a habit of duffing it or thining it. I guess its just my course management to play to my stregths but frustrating just the same knowing my scores could improve a fair bit if i didnt loose shots with my wedges, more often than not because im rushing the shot or on the flip side over thinking it.

Thought id have a quick update, it's been just over a year now since I started to get interested in this frustrating game. Reading back through the thread everything has changed, mentality, approach to the game and my knowledge, being analytical, the stats and what makes everything tick has kept me interested focused on getting better.

Back when I first started playing I brought some new gear fairly quick ( Full set of Taylormade M6 Irons, Woods, Hybrid, Wedges and Spider putter ), I was obsessed with hitting it big distances and the clubs helped with that as they were strong lofted. All that's changed which id expect it does for most people when they get into a new sport, focusing on the wrong things.

Fast forward, I've now been custom fitted for everything in the bag so my Taylormade set is gone. My full set now consists of

Mizuno ST200 + Cobra SpeedZone Driver ( Got fitted for the Mizuno ST200 today as the Cobra wasnt cutting it )
    Cobra SZ 3 Wood
    Cobra SZ 3 Hybrid
    Mizuno MP20 HMB 4 - 7
    Mizuno MP20 MMC 8 - PW
    Vokey SM8 Wedges - 60, 54 and 50
    Evnroll ER2 Black Putter.

I've not played competatively yet and havent handed more cards in for a handicap adjustment but ive knocked 5 shots off my handicap so should be playing to a 12-13 which I think is pretty good for less than 14 months hard graft ( I've played once a week and range 2 or 3 a week pretty much the entire year ).

Aiming high and going to try and get to single figures within 2 and half years, I've given myself a bit longer than another year as i suspect its going to be harder to shed shots soon. Plus I struggle more with the mental side of the game than the skill/physical side, so my plan over the coming months is to play alot more with people i dont know to try and pull that mental part into place.

Looks at these beeeautiful irons :D
