We are long time VW fans, having been to many festivals and meets, and was thinking of buying a Classic split screen way back when....Then along came a child and ruined it all lol, only kidding.....kind of :D. Now said child is 6 we've finally took the plunge and brought a more reliable T6 conversion. Picked it up on Friday as a form of us getting out and about as a family this summer as I dont think we'll take the plunge abroard for another year or so at least.

Any other enthusiasts about ? Thinking of getting it remapped next and some full length rear quartar windows.

    Show us your vans :)

I'd love to do that, i think we are planning on a few local over nighters to start us off and make sure we've got all the gear we need, then going further afield as the weeks go on.

As I work from a home office anyway, I may even take it down the coast in the summer and work out the back of the van for an afternoon :D

Love that, will keep tabs on your blog too great domain name :D

My Neighbour told me about a cool website ( you may already know about it ) where for £30 a year you get a book and facebook group membership of everywhere around the UK which allow camper vans to pitch up for the night as a stopping place, completely free of charge. You can't put tents / Awnings up etc but allows you to figure out stopping places between your destinations, like farms, or rural pub car parks etc. Might be helpful for a few : https://britstops.com

Britstops & Park4night are two of the best apps, I`ll hopefully be installing a solar panel soon so more wild camping can be done.

Yeah I'm taking the van in over the next few weeks to have a night header, solar panel , windows and the Alpine halo 9 head unit and reversing cameras put in, honestly buying little accessories and stuff for it is becoming more expensive hobby than golf :D

A drive-away awning is a good idea, gives you an extra room and you don't have to take it down every time you go out.

We had two main reasons for opting for a Cali instead; firstly they hold their value incredibly well (especially now!) and secondly, crash test certification.

To be honest, it is more my missus's thing than mine; I'd prefer a fancy hotel or airbnb and another car on the drive, but she always wanted one, and there is no denying how useful they are for regular short trips and long UK holidays (we go to Cornwall every year).

We got a mint example, was 9 years old at the time with only 20,000 miles. It was garaged every night (some guy owned it in Oxford and seemingly had a garage big enough!) and he use to ferry it to Spain each year to avoid putting miles on it. Had a service history from VW each year, and he was one of those people that paid VW rates for all work needed, including tyres!!! It came with every possible option ticked and still has all the unused accessories with it.

Yeah I do alot of work with a large California memberbase so I've always been a fan, but I didnt want to spend more than 40k and wanted didnt want the Beach ( as missus wanted full kitchen ) so for the budget, id end up with a 2012 Cali or near new Conversion. But yeah they hold their value crazy well and obviously are built for purpose so dont come with the querks of a conversion :D I would imagine if we have the T6 for a few years we'll probably end up moving to a Cali as time goes on and if we use it enough.

Although I'd still like to have 20" wheels on a Cali as well lol.

lol, it is fround upon to modify a Cali it seems. I suggested removing the signature wind out awning as we rarely use it and probably cost a couple of mpg but the death stare told me "you don't do that".

We have a large drive away awning. Look no further than Vango if you decide to get one, you'll find yourself needing the room, especially with a kid and all they bring!
