Hi
Just thought I would add to the thankyou we put in the main DomainChannel thread.
It was really great to meet the people we work with and our competitors Ed and Barry. What struck me was the openness of the discussions and the willingness to share information. This can only be a good thing as the market is going to change over the next few months for all of us and its great to see what might happen.
What might be worth taking note of as a domain partner is our good relationship with our competitors. Why?. Because there is no need for aggressive marketing and camp building in this market place, which will only benefit you as a domain partner as we (the parking companies) are happy to share information with each other about damaging matters such as clickfraud and dubious practices. It also means that we wont be hounding or bugging people saying "sign up here, they are rubbish, sign up here, sign up here" etc. I know that domainers (of which I am one) know whats a good thing and whats not, they don't need to be told, our reputation should be a good one and that should be enough to encourage people to use us. There is not a lot of difference between parking companies, currently - only the future direction of them. This is something with which we hope to capture some of your attention with the new public features we are releasing (more info this week).
I thought some of the most interesting points made during the day came from Ross Sandler from RBC Capital Markets. He showed us that this market is very much a growth market and that the opportunities taken today could make us all very wealthy people in the long run. Which is what this is all about. If I see another "Domain Parking is Dead" article I will be sure to contact the author and ask them to change it to "Domain Parking is Dead, Long Live Domain Parking" because, as i see it the parking business has just started, portfolio owners are just realising how much money they bring into an economy and how to best exploit that, it might not always be called domain parking but its definately got a great head start.
As for the discussions around the parking vs developing route. I think Tommy has the perfect approach and we should all look to that as the future of our portfolios.
The event went really really well for us - we got some great people who are going to try us out this week - As for our tombola prize (the MacBook) I personally was really gutted to see it go
!
Take care and was really great to meet you all.
All the very best
Paul
