Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I have no experience with Joomla or Wordpress so it isn't necessary to be on either of these platforms.

My server supports php/mysql and i'm looking for a free directory web site template so i can make it into a wedding directory that is free to add your advert to (if you're a wedding supplier) in return for links not money.

However, i've scoured the internet, probably not well enough because i can't find a decent solution.

Anyone have any suggestions? Help much appreciated.

Wordpress is not the best platform for a directory, but there is a driectory plugin http://www.directorypress.net/ It's not free but it is very cheap.

For Joomla there's Mosets Tree http://www.mosets.com/tree/ which again, is not free but is very cheap.

There are no GOOD free directory plugins or scripts that I am aware of. There are some but they are all flawed in one way or another.

Try SobiPro that launched on Joomla recently, it's by far the best I have seen. They all have tiny issues that make them a pain in the butt. However SobiPro is free and has paid fields where users can pay if they want to fill in a field like url etc.

SobiPro takes some beating

Thanks GreyWing - i'm exploring the Joomla/SobiPro option.

The only down sides to it are

1) Can't set custom field per category, only parent category (all children categories will have those fields.) Not bad but could do with custom fields per sub-category imo

2) No facility for anyone to take ownership, for example you doing a directory on a hotel, the hotel can't take ownership of it and answer reviews etc

3) Can't charge to feature an ad

Apart from those 3 it's perfect, you could always get these custom coded in though as the software is open and the license allows you to develop it.

Not perfect but far ahead of the other directories I have seen and it is free...
