Had a hosting problem for about 20 hours. fixed now but how long would you say it would have to be down before google and the other SE's change your site rankings?

    Cheers

Depends how often google visits your site IMO.

I had one site a 2 word generic that was number 2 for the "Word1 Word2", my site was down for server migration for 2 days and I dropped off the first page. Another site dropped 1 spot then went straight back to middle of page 1, so I think it depends on how often google checks your site before it determines its dead.

Not sure, but when StoreBurst was down for a couple of days recently due to their host being hacked, it had no bearing on the serps for any of my stores as a result of it.

I just found a domain that has not has a site on it since January and server is down/replaced but dns not updated. This still ranks number 1 for the 2 words in the domain name.

    So god knows.

I depends what it is replaced with - just a 'cannot connect' seems to be ok but parking etc a big no no.

That explains my issue Rob, I updated my DNS back to daily's default holding page, which maybe why it went so bad.
