Ban typo's and trademarks?

Is it time to clean up Acorndomains and ban typo's and trademarks from being listed?

Not really. It's up to the individual if they want to risk owning and selling a trademark. They're allowed on DNForum so I don't see why they shouldn't on here too.

At the end of the day it's down to the individual if they want to risk owning a trademarked domain.

There is also the problem is that the users request certain rules, the mods 'police' these rules, then we get abuse because of it, then the person giving the abuse get banned, and it is apparently our fault

Plus this particular mod has plenty of the aforementioned TM domains.

Yes, and who would decide what was a trademark domain and what wasn't? It would create a world of arguments between mods and members and for what? Does it really matter if people want to sell typos or trademarked names?

Rob

In principle it's a good idea, but in reality it is not possible and will lead to lots of headaches.

Nominet and ICANN still can't get it right!

maybe try to discourage the practice.

OlympicBreakfast.co.uk still avail.

Who do you think would be first to pop a letter in the post?

The IOC or Little Chef? :D

.
The new Act makes it a criminal offence, punishable by a £20,000 fine, to advertise using the Olympics without permission. Police can seize goods such as advertising material and charge for their time.

Advertisers risk prosecution and being sued if they use words such as 'summer', 'games' and '2012'.

However, a loophole means Little Chef can use the Olympic Breakfast brand as it was in use before the first Act came into effect.

LOL... I think it would be sent from the IOC but delivered by a small cook :)

I don't want to introduce so many rules that it puts people off being here either, I vote they stay, at the users risk. I do maintain though that Olympic domains are banned since the IOC has a lot of clout and with 2012 looming I don't want AD littered with these.

I think there may be a small (I suspect only hypothetical) risk that if obvious typos or very well known and distinctive marks are put up for sale, then the owners of the forum could be deemed joint tortfeasers in the infringement in respect of the act of selling the names. Unlikely to happen, unless you are making big bucks out of having them sold on your platform and you knew/should have known about it.

Interesting

Beasty...your interesting acceptance of the facts 'I think there may be a small (I suspect only hypothetical) risk that if obvious typos or very well known and distinctive marks are put up for sale, then the owners of the forum could be deemed joint tortfeasers in the infringement in respect of the act of selling the names. Unlikely to happen, unless you are making big bucks out of having them sold on your platform and you knew/should have known about it.'

Do you think Nominet know about typos or do the well respected experts keep things to themselves and Nominet are barred from reading the expert decisions... in an attempt to be impartial and not take any responsibility for the products they sell

Lee

Their are worse things in the world happening today than people selling or advertising typo's on here. waste of time and energy to even discuss it.

And their are a few type's of typo's too Trade Mark, none Trade Mark

I'd end this thread as it's on the road to nowhere :D

Agree?

(and yes I do have some typo's not trademarks) ;)

And we are in the UK not China !!
