    Hi,

I recently purchased the above domain though I have two minds as what to do. I am writing in this forum for some advice.

Obviously the name is incredibly popular however I did initially buy the domain to create a fan site to link with other companies etc etc that are connected to Phelps...swim-wear etc etc.

In addition to that with 2012 looming...I have some ideas.

I am aware that Phelp's name is probably well protected but...is their any scope to sell this on:confused:. I have been told that this is a Premium Domain and it scored very highly.

I wonder if anyone with a domain with Michael Phelps will be getting a letter soon to protect him and natural his brand.

    Any thoughts etc!!

    Cheers

    Hi

    Hi Surfdood and welcome,

I personally think regging someone elses name is a bit of a grey area. I am sure if your site became popular then the chances are you may well be contacted by his agents, then again..if it pumps loads of uniques directly to his official website they may say nothing about it. Its difficult to forecast what they may do to be honest. If you were to make money from his name, then assume they will mark your card!

"I am aware that Phelp's name is probably well protected..."
May be worth checking that out properly before undertaking any website construction.

    Paul

becuase he will no doubt be at the games in 2012, I would leave this name well alone....

falls into the same category as footballers names, you will get burnt (search Nominet DRS on wayne rooney)

Noted all the replies...and searched rooney-no result on Nom DRS however found other cases...

I am contacting Phelps PR Team and ask them directly, and if it is a big no no then I will guide them to sedo where Phelps name is being exploited.

If they are in agreement to create a link to their site or create a fan site, then so be it.

    Thanks again..

If you tell them that youre going to do a site promoting him in the UK which will then link though to his main site then you should be ok. Then get pushing that site with some SEO, put some ads on it and just leave it. Youre on the right track to be number one on Google for Michael Phelps and that could generate you some income! They should be happy as long as you refer your visitors to the official site.

But ... take a look at franklampard.com which sold for $12,400 in 2006.
