Every so often I spot a parked name that is getting really useless links and no amount of changing keywords seems to fix it.
It seems to get locked giving links based only on the domain name.

For example one on mine is an old name for a local radio station and has been getting hundreds of views with people looking for which schools are closed. So they are not clicking on links for 'Mercury Mining', 'Freddy Mercury' and 'Mercury Poisoning'.
I've changed everything I can, but to no effect. (the domain is radiomercury.co.uk)

This has happened before. In the end I had to email Namedrive to get it fixed and by the time it was the traffic was long gone.

Is there any way to set 'ignore the name'?

Hi FC,

The keywords we submit to our ad provider are only suggestions and they sometimes decide to override them with more adequate ones. This is not always the case, though, as you have noted here.
Sadly, there is no way to "ignore the name" by default and we are obliged to deal with this on a domain by domain basis. If you PM me the domain, I can get it changed right away.
I apologise for any inconvenience.

I emailed support and it went to sensible links for a few minutes. Now it's back to mercury extraction again.

If you can change it, why can't we?

Hi FC,

Which support mail did you send your request to? Because I don't believe I've seen the tech request to get it changed.
Our keyword is not always overwritten by our ad provider, it will sometimes show the correct ads, so this will explain why it looked OK before.
I appreciate it is an inconvenience, but it is something which has to be done directly through us to our ad provider and cannot be done directly.

I've got an idea, why not always show the correct ads.

If people have gone to the effort of selecting what they think are the best keywords and checked that they produce appropriate ads, why not use them?

This is very important when a domain suddenly starts generating traffic and it's the owner who will work out why and optimise the keywords.

I emailed [email protected]
The domain is radiomercury.co.uk which is a local radio station not a mining company.

Hi FC,

As I pointed out in my original post, we would like to show the correct ads every time, but our ad provider sometimes overrides them. This is not an issue with something which we are incorrectly implementing.
We can react to any domains which are not responding correctly and may lose the domainer revenue as a result, but we cannot override our advertising partner's keywords by default.
