Not sure I get this strike... I mean there are plenty of brits in Europe and around the world nicking their local jobs as well. Likewise I guess 'Total' or Totaaal must have tendered out for stuff and the UK lot were simply not up to crack...?

Rob this will take to long to type i will have to speak to you to give all the facts but the long and short of it was the firm saying they didnt want British workers on British soil working for them we dont mind them coming over here working but they must get paid the same as us even though our wages are crap they got the tender because there was a huge penalty clause that no one wanted and the cost of British workers been placed in accommodation was at least three times as much as the cost of their barge

With their workers not paying any income tax or national insurance into our coffers whats to say more coming over getting paid less not paying taxes then theres less British workers paying tax more on the dole and less and less money in the pot for everything Hospital schools THE Unemployed it would be a downward spirral I asked the question about them paying their taxes to our country but was told the law needs to be changed first

We have British men taken on by them now only because their workers were crap not our boys only three of their welders passed their coding tests thats the reason they have taken on british workers

Dont allways listen to the media I've learned that now we knew what we were fighting for but you could here your words twisted by them

We are not back at work yet there is a protest tommorrow at staythorpe power station to get British workers working there we are back at work Monday because the lads voted to I didnt I wanted this sorted now because next time we come out on strike we may not have the great support that we had but at least I will be in the area for the ilkley meet

The FIGHT goes on visit www.Bearfacts.co.uk

Thats the short version hope it helps

Did they say this? as that would be totally against the law surely?

Likewise the artifical barriers in place ie. penalty clauses would be illegal,

I must say I am generally in favour of companies being able to act without red tape, however there are laws in place for a reason.

Which is the way it should be, but with a level playing field for the inital pool ;)

Dont worry, I am a skeptic on everything and dont trust the media viewpoint thus asking you direct.

The whole "BRITISH JOBS FOR BRITISH WORKERS" thing, does that mean Multinational Jobs for Multinational Workers as these oil corps are global companies. *ducks*

One thing I *dont* like is the union bosses on massive wages, expenses, pension and huge cars. Power to the workers innit, just not at their expense ;)

Its being said at staythorpe and allways said at staythorpe No British workers need not apply they where out for a week and a half on strike before we came out we were paying for men to man the picket line there because those men would not get paid for being there

There is nothing wrong with penalty clauses but they were in the millions too high for British companys to have as well as the cost of accommodation they couldnt compete

We have allways fought for a level playing field you cant stop them coming over were in the EU and we did not want to stop them

I have worked abroad so know whats it like for them but the media banding them to be specialists workers for this project they werent any more specialists than our boys riggers, fitters, platers, and welders our lads were getting laid off and maybe still getting laid off from Jacobs and Shaws because of this Firm from the 17th feb that was never said in the press

Last thing the union could not back our strike "protest" as past goverments have taken away the unions powers to strike the union couldnt back us as one member said to me the union is useless their only use they have is their legal clout your couldnt pay £10 a month for

As the workers have showed we have to stick together to keep our jobs and the future jobs for our kids as I said to a young lad on the day we voted to strike this is history you are fighting for your kids future

When History asks where were you I can say I was there fighting for our kids future

If thats the case why aint the unions challenging them in the courts? If I did that I would be hung drawn and quartered.

Found this elsewhere:

"You can't blame the foreign workers, we might do the same, it's the employers.

"The reason for this is that they want to cut cost. It is all across the industry. Yes they may say on paper that they are paying the same wages.

"But we know they will get it back off them one way or the other: deductions for accommodation, deductions for buses, etc. We have no way of checking what they will really be on.

Is it that Brits are being turned down totally due to nationality, or if they were on a same take home they wouldnt take the work?

Surely if there was a choice of paying Brits the same wage they would go British, however if the Brits wont match what others will work for then there is the problem.
