'Domain Lord' - Comments?

Just registered on Domain Lord - can't get the T's & C's to work/display - wondering if anyone can clarify the commission process, etc?

Are they any good in general, any comments anyone?

I think it's run by an AD member?

PS: Got the T & C now, works on Firefox, but IE wouldn't display pop up.

Cheers, I didn't look there, most sites seem to have a link to them on their pages without having to go looking for them.

 

From what I have seen of the system and spoke to the owner, any suggestions on improvements to the site are welcomed.

I imagine it will be in all our interests if there is a good place to sell domain names rather than the few we have at the moment (acorn excluded).

 

I have one suggestion, on the registration page it says:

Is that buyer/sellers mobile number given during registration that DomainLord release to the parties?

If so, I think people should have to supply their home landline numbers instead of a mobile during registration, which the DomainLord admins should verify by calling, that gives an extra layer of security for everyone in the event that a seller transfers and the the buyer does a chargeback, I wouldn't fancy doing business with a stranger and only have a mobile number for contact!

I think from memory it sends through a sms code that needs to be verified.

I'm not sure on the others and I'd just be guessing but sound reasonable questions. I'm sure Denys will be able to answer them and if not will put something in place to please all parties. But it certainly seems more secure than other sales rooms for both buyers and sellers.

Plus there seems to be some flexibility in this sites approach rather than stubborn responses on why something can't be done.

 

The site looks quite interesting, but if it's going to get popular it's going to need a name that comes across as less arrogant than DomainLord.co.uk. I don't see end users lining up to buy at a site like that - just rubs their noses in the fact that they've missed out on the chance to pick up good domains first time around.

Right now, no big deal - but the more well-known it gets, and the more people link to it, the more painful a rebrand will be in the future!

 

Domainlord was a private auctions playground which I'm now opening to the public. It is very much work in progress and I don't expect it to be Sedo killer just yet. The idea is to make something different, free and focus on premium UK domain names. What's considered "premium" is defined in the rules, though as usual people don't pay attention and submit crap, then wonder why their domains being rejected..

Does anyone else thinks the name is arrogant? Yes, it's a proud one.
Wouldn't you buy land spots from Landlord.co.uk? Perhaps centuries ago Landlord sounded as arrogant as Domainlord sounds today. But now former is a title to be fond of, appreciated and respected.

Suppose a buyer approaches you to buy a name, you agree on the price and tell him how to pay. Do you have to verify a buyer then by giving him a call or through other means? It might make sense just in one case, if buyer pays you via Paypal, as it is the only payment method offered @ domainlord which allows chargebacks. But you are not required to chose this method if you are concerned of a chargeback possibility.

I trust it is always more worrying for the buyer to pay seller in advance. And for this you have an Escrow.com option.

 

Personally I don't really care what a website's name is, it's its function that I'm interested in, but I can understand why some people feel uncomfortable with <anything>lord.

The word "landlord" is an interesting relic from former times when Britain existed as a feudal society. In those times people generally accepted the social position they were born into and did not question the authority of those considered higher up in the social hierarchy. The word has been in usage for such a long time that it carries no arrogant connotation now.

But nowadays the sentiment among most people is much more egalitarian (even though the political reality doesn't reflect this) and anyone setting themselves up as some kind of lord or trying to assert themselves as superior will often be met with disapproval.

It's funny though, if the name were domainking most poeple probably wouldn't have a problem with it, even though they would think the position of a king is far more outrageous than that of a lord!

 

Are these all no reserve auctions?

If not, that should be made clearer. Nothing worse than being the winning bidder and then getting told, sorry... didn't reach my reserve price.

Agreed. I not sure that I would feel happy dealing as it is. Seems quite silly for just a name but there you go.

 

I'm with you guys on the name.

I would use a name that SCREAMS, I'm SERIOUSLY F**KING GOOD at what I do, so my address is domains,co.uk or something that makes you look the part. Look at how we sell to businesses ? Are you JoeBloggsFatherSonAndBabyBuilders.co.uk or are you joes.co.uk or builders.co.uk ?

Its like the guys I buy my phone numbers off their number is 07999999970 (http://www.metallicnumbers.com), a perfect palindrome, I think a super premium name would give a better image, even if its a brandable like sedo.

 

Maybe he's going for domainauctions.co.uk - on sedo atm for 1.8k and domainsales.co.uk for £4k!

 

heh, no. If it ever comes to re-branding with DomainLord, it'll be a reg. fee domain name ;-)
